Dear friends & family,

If you like this month's intricate cover, you'll enjoy watching artist Android Jones create it. Go to http://www.androidjones.com/ and scroll down to "Dharma Dragon Timelapse" (9:30 min.). My appreciation for this work, created live at last year's Boom Festival in Portugal, grew as I watched.

Click on the cover above to read about sex hormones (part of the Chakra series), the formation of a local grocery co-op, rain magic rock art, crowd-sourced advice for newlyweds, the place of ponds in the desert, and lots more.

Best wishes,
Greta deJong, editor & publisher

Utah Arts Festival News

Utah Arts Festival organizers have announced the music headliners for the 2013 Festival, running June 20-23 on Library Square in downtown Salt Lake City.

Opening Night kicks off with New Orleans funksters, The Iguanas, and the magical music and dance of Ghana's African Showboyz, who will also be headlining on Friday. During the four days of the Utah Art Festival, you can sample styles ranging from the fusion jazz of percussionist Dennis Chambers and Grafitti, to fiery bluegrass breakdowns of the SteelDrivers, and the lyrical Latin rock of Y La Bamba, the swamp blues guitar of Kenny Neal, the rootsy tool-meets-music stylings of Shovelman, the Southern singer/songwriter rock of Jason Isbell, the soulful croon of Ryan Innes, the experimental dream rock of Sound Mass, the melodious hard rock of Salt Lake City-born band, Royal Bliss, and the wide-roaming groove of the Portland Cello Project.

Adult admission is $12 at the gate, $8 in advance. Children 12 and under are free. Be an Art Fan for the entire Festival with a four-day pass, $35.

Monday, May 20, marks the next exact Uranus/Pluto square-the third in a series of seven squares occurring between June 2012 and April 2015. From an astrological perspective, Uranus/Pluto contacts always signal periods of great change; they symbolize cycles of political and social upheaval and upset, revolutionary cycles that seem to activate both an individual as well as a collective desire for transformation. We've been in the matrix of this current cycle since spring 2012...(read more).
