Creating Great Memories...

March 4, 2015

March is Women's History month.  Well, not only am I acknowledging and celebrating great women in our history, I am making history!  I will elaborate in the next newsletter. Actually, we are all history makers, even though we may not be in the history books.  If nothing else, we are a part of our family history. I ask ... what legacy are you leaving?

I recently returned from a fabulous trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was a trip with one of my Meetup groups. There were 23 of us on this adventurous and fun escapade. Although I had been to Puerto Rico before, it was so many, many years ago, that it seemed like a first time visit, and I experienced a lot of firsts in this new chapter of my life.

Celebrating Women's
History Month

Barbara Hillary
Barbara Hillary is the first black woman to reach the North and South poles.

She made it into the record books by reaching the top of the planet in 2007 - and this year, at age 79, Queens cancer survivor and trailblazer Barbara Hillary historically made the trek to the bottom, too.

"Barbara, you finally did it," the retired, Harlem-born nurse recalled thinking as she stood at the South Pole on Jan. 31, 2011 fewer than four years after mastering the North Pole. "Or maybe I died and went to the great expedition in the sky!"

Hillary became the first black woman to go to either pole, much less both.

"I refuse to get older and be boring to myself and others," she told The Post.
