"Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume Two" box wins Grammy

A quick shout out to the team behind Third Man & Revenant Records' epic "The Rise & Fall Of Paramount Records, Volume Two (1928-32)" box for recently earning a Grammy for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. Jack White, Susan Archie, and Dean Blackwood deserve much praise for the art direction behind this gorgeous looking collection, which David Glasser and Anna Frick had the pleasure of restoring and mastering, with transfers and mastering by Christopher King. Here's our write-up about the project.
David Glasser updates on new Boulder studio construction

We've made progress on the new Boulder studio build! The green metal roof was completed just in time for the two feet of snow we received last month. Power has been run from the utility pole to the new meter, and the furnace and duct silencer installed. We plan to install a 7kW solar PV array on the south-facing roof; the solar panel installer is standing by. The structure is substantially complete, and the interior construction begins this week. We are on track for the studio's maiden voyage in the late spring.

In the coming months we'll continue to share more details about the new studio. We're very excited about it and look forward to working with you in 2016 and beyond.

Ultrafaux records concert and film at Allyworld, plus other recent video projects

Baltimore's Ultrafaux just played our Allyworld
studio in Takoma Park the other week and we recorded it for a sweet video project they were putting togetherCharlie Pilzer engineered and mixed the audio, and the result came out looking great and sounding fantastic (as band member Michael Joseph Harris just wrote to us: "Our guitars have never sounded this good!"). The trio, which specializes in original compositions in the style of Jean "Django" Reinhardt and other Gypsy jazz players, features Sami Arefin joining Michael on guitars and bassist Eddie Hrybyk. Sam Prather shot and edited the video. Sit back, relax and check out some virtuostic guitar playing on the Allyworld stage

If you're interested in making a live recording at Allyworld in Takoma Park drop us a line!

Takoma Park engineer Don Godwin helped out on the score of the new film "The Living Need Light, The Dead Need Music," engineering and mixing some of the featured brass band tracks. The piece has been described as a "spectacular visual and musical journey through the fantastical funerary traditions of South Vietnam" and is currently on display at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA as part of its Forum Gallery installation series until April 25 (Don just got back from playing the opening with Raya Brass Band). Read more and watch the trailer here.

Boulder engineers Jon Gold, James Tuttle, and Dominick Maita have been continuing their work with singer and guitarist Lindsey Saunders on her recent music video series. Watch her latest, which is an official cover of Stevie Wonder's classic "Superstition," inspired by the Adam Rafferty arrangement. It was a team effort, with Jon handling tracking, James doing the mix, and Dominick mastering. Zack Littlefield and Nicolas Tapia took care of the cameras and film editing, with video shot at eTown. Excellent job everyone!

Ann Blonston's panel at Folk Alliance, "21st Century Archiving," addressed the torrent of media created around every concert or festival, and with every record project. We'll post audio from the session soon, but in the meantime, find the panel's resource list at Ann's blog post.
