Engineer's Corner - Spotlight on James Tuttle

In this year's newsletters, we're featuring profiles of Airshow's engineers and staff. This month we profile James Tuttle, recording and mixing engineer at the Boulder studio.

James has had a wealth of experience working in the music world, getting his start playing guitar in one of the Rocky Mountain area's most beloved 70s bands, Navarro. After some time spent on the road as part of Carole King's backup band, James shifted his focus to studio work, helping musicians sound amazing in studios throughout Austin, Texas as well as Colorado.

In addition to working out of Airshow's Mix A room, James is the Chief Recording Engineer for eTown, a nationally-syndicated radio show highlighting Americana music from a Boulder concert hall (past guests include James Taylor, Mumford & Sons, and Ani DiFranco).

Two Clients Complete Great Video Projects With Help from Airshow

Our Takoma Park and Boulder studios recently helped two clients make some amazing video work come alive.

Washington, DC-based multi-instrumentalist and beatboxer Christylez Bacon came in to Takoma Park's tracking room to lay down some original music made in collaboration with the Dunkin' Donuts Summer Soundtrack series which was captured in an awesome video. Watch Christylez go wild in the Airshow studio using a wide range of instruments, including some insane mouth-made beats as well as coffee cups and straws.

The audio in the video was recorded, mixed and mastered by Charlie Pilzer

Boulder client Lindsey Saunders also turned to Airshow for help on a new video. To give Lindsey the best results, we brought in eTown to collaborate. Tracking and filming was done at eTown hall with Jon Gold, Zack Littlefield, and Nicholas Tapia. James Tuttle mixed it back at Airshow, with Dominick Maita doing the mastering. Check out the first video, which is a cover of a song you're sure to have heard recently, and stay tuned for more great music from Lindsey!

Strathmore Summer Music Program Students Visit and Record in Takoma Park

On Thursday, July 16, Airshow Takoma Park hosted students from the Music Center at Strathmore's High School Summer Intensive for a full day studio tour, seminar, rehearsal and recording session. The groups each recorded two pieces with Charlie Pilzer before debuting the results of their collaborative efforts at Strathmore's brand new venue, AMP.
