Engineer's Corner: Spotlight on Dominick Maita
In this year's newsletters, we will feature profiles of Airshow's engineers, starting this month with Dominick Maita, Senior Mastering Engineer at the Boulder, CO studios.
"Never in my career have I heard a record brought to life so dramatically in the mastering process! AMAZING !!!" said David Krakauer about his recent album The Big Picture, which was mastered by Dominick Maita, senior mastering engineer at Airshow's Boulder, CO studio. Dominick started in the music business in 1979 and has had a wide-ranging career. As a recording and mix engineer, he worked on such classic albums as 'til Tuesday's Voices Carry and Herbie Hancock's Future Shock, which featured the hit single "Rockit." As mastering engineer at Sterling Sound in New York City, he mastered the seminal Fall Out Boy record Take This to Your Grave, mixed by Chicago's Sean O'Keefe. At Airshow, Dominick masters all of the songs for the Ryan Murphy produced television shows American Horror Story and Glee, which has charted more than 500 songs on iTunes. Dominick is certified by Apple to provide "Mastered for iTunes" content.
Dominick also mastered Eliza Gilkyson's The Nocturne Diaries, which was mixed by Airshow's James Tuttle and nominated for a 2015 Grammy in the Best Folk Album category. Dominick is currently studying tube guitar amp circuitry with Gerald Weber of Kendrick Amplifiers and has provided several local studios with hot-rodded, spectacular-sounding guitar amplifiers.
Check out a video interview with Dominick produced by one of his clients, guitarist Lindsay Saunders, and read more about his favorite piece of gear as well as some of his selected credits here.
