Audiobooks and the Independent Author

You've put your heart and soul into writing a book, and of course you want creative control of the audio version. Where do you start?

Airshow engineers Jon Gold and Anna Frick and General Manager Ann Blonston pooled their thoughts on how independent authors could take advantage of pro technical resources and create their ideal audiobook on a real-world budget. In Airshow's 3-part blog series, they cover pre-production decisions authors face in creating their audiobook; share tips about recording an audiobook and describe the post-production steps to create a polished, professional audiobook; then tie it all together and explore a budget for a 200-page, 50,000-word audiobook narrated by the author.
Audio for Video in the Creation of the "Community Cornerstones" Documentary

Airshow recently had the pleasure of working on a new documentary called Community Cornerstones: African American Communities in Montgomery County, Maryland. The nearly 60-minute film focuses on the rich and vibrant histories of five African American church communities just outside of Washington, DC.

The Restoration Center for Audio Archives

Airshow GM Ann Blonston visited the Association of Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) conference in Chapel Hill this month--a gathering of collectors, academic archivists and record label folks--to pick up the latest on web-based tools for digital media access and display.

What hidden, forgotten, and valuable history is in your archive? We've been bringing historic audio treasures to light for over 30 years! The Restoration Center is a suite of services to assist cultural heritage institutions and record labels to digitize analog audio archives and make them accessible electronically. Learn more about how we can help you uncover buried treasure!

David Glasser Elected Recording Academy San Francisco Chapter Board Member

"NARAS is an organization that has a lot to offer members in the music community, but until now it has been difficult, or impossible, for Colorado NARAS members to participate in the many activities sponsored by the local chapters--the closest NARAS chapters are in California and Texas! The San Francisco chapter has reached out to Colorado, and will be offering events in the Denver/Boulder area and beyond. As a new member of the SF Board of Governors I hope to bring a voice and build greater participation among the NARAS members lucky enough to live in Colorado. My first board meeting is in late June. I will report back, and hope that our Colorado members will be in touch to offer suggestions for events they would like to see happen here." --David Glasser
