New Client Sounds

On her latest release, bass virtuoso and 7-time IBMA bass player of the year Missy Raines explores a new path for her musical vision. (Watch her video here.) New Frontier is entirely a vocal album featuring Raines' dusky, emotive alto layered among the cool grooves and expansive soundscapes provided by guitarist Ethan Ballinger, mandolinist/acoustic guitarist Jarrod Walker and drummer/percussionist Josh Fox. Jason Mullinax and Janine Wilson

Airshow Takoma Park kicked off a songwriter circle on June 11 hosted by Janine Wilson and Kevin Dudley. Round-robin style song swapping started off the evening and then the group began writing a song together. The working title is a bit risqué for this column so you'll have to join next time to learn the name!

The songwriter circle is held the second Tuesday of every month, and all musicians (and instruments) are welcome. The creative atmosphere encourages performing an original composition, sharing songs either completed or in progress and collaborating on new songs. Mark your calendars for the next one on July 9th.
