Mission
Artomatic strengthens Washington's artistic community and builds an audience for that community by bringing together artists to temporarily transform available space into a creative space.

How Artomatic Realizes its Mission:

- Artomatic hosts signature events in temporary spaces that enable the arts community, its supporters and community stakeholders to connect.

- Artomatic events are unjuried and inclusive, allowing exhibition, presentation and publication opportunities for local artists, poets, writers and performers to display and perform their work.

- Through classes and training at Artomatic events, we introduce new audiences to the arts and the arts community.

My Story
Stories from Artomatic

"Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the hours of work you all have put into this splendid offering to the DC area. I am sure that there's much that goes on that the rest of us are unaware of, and that you go far beyond the call of duty in order to get things working. It can't be easy to pull together an event as big as this one, and I have to say how impressed I was with every aspect of it from the beginning (the online registration process) to end.

Having recently finished a teaching career, it was important for me to get my art off the back burner and put it out where it could be seen. This, my first Artomatic, has garnered me a BIG sale ($4500), a museum show, and contacts for other exhibitions. I met some great people, learned a lot, and enjoyed several trips around every floor in the building. I couldn't have asked for more."
- Susan La Mont

DC Artist Exchange (DCax)

DC Artist Exchange project (DCax) is now completed. This collaborative project was developed by Artomatic and its partners: DC Artist Exchange (DCax) partners were ReSourceArts, Hamiltonian Artists, Dance Place (Art on 8th), CulturalDC, and Nurish.  Soon the videos from the artist-work-space panel discussions will be available.

The artist-work-space panels focused on the following space issues:

  • Kick Off - Art on 8th Street, Dance Place and the Monroe Street Market
  • On Their Own (how artists solve their space needs)
  • Studio Incubators (how co-working space is used)
  • Temporary Use (how has government property been used)
  • Private Property (hear from property owners)
  • Start Swapping (investigation on creating a vehicle for artists to swap, share and barter for services and materials)

Artomatic Licensing

This fall Artomatic licensed two artist communities to organize their own Artomatic events. These two events represent our continued commitment to empowering artists to take charge. Each of the local artist communities partnered with a local community not-for-profit.
