WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WON?

Have you ever thought about what you'd do if you won the lottery?  I have to confess that I have.  The first thing I've thought is that, if I won the lottery, it would definitely have to be a "God thing," since I've never bought a ticket.

Since that scenario isn't very likely, it started me thinking in another direction.  What would I do if someone from my bank called and told me that an anonymous donor, who is very wealthy and loves me very much, had contacted them and told them that they will be depositing 86,400 cents into my bank account every day.  The first thing I would wonder is how much money that is.  I'd get out my calculator and do the math and realize that this figure works out to $864 per day.

What if the banker tells me there is one condition:  I must spend the full amount that is deposited every day.  I can't carry over any unspent funds from one day to the next. Whatever I don't use I lose.

Once again I'd turn to my calculator.  $864 a day times 7 days a week equals $6,048.  That amount multiplied by 52 weeks totals out to $314,496 per year.  That's a lot of money.  But it's also a fantasy.

Here's the reality:  Someone who is very wealthy and loves you very much is depositing into your bank of time 86,400 seconds every day.  That someone is God.  The condition is you have to spend it.  You can't save up time and carry it over to the next day.  With time, you use it or lose it.

What are you and I doing with the time that God has given us?  I hope you can join us this weekend as we look at what it means to be normal and what it means to be WEiRD in the way we use the time that God has entrusted to us.

Embracing the journey,

Pastor Rick
