WHAT, ME WORRY?
In 1954 Mad Magazine introduced Alfred E. Neuman on its cover. He was a comic book-looking figure with jug ears, a missing front tooth and one eye lower than the other. He always had a goofy smile and, along with his picture, was the phrase, "What, me worry?"
One editor said this about Neuman: "His was a face that didn't have a care in the world except mischief." Alfred E. Neuman soon became the cover boy for Mad Magazine.
Think for a moment about his signature phrase. Is that the best way to deal with worry? Should we just look it in the eye and keep repeating the phrase, "What, me worry?", and go on our way as if nothing is wrong?
Worry or anxiety is no laughing matter. It can create tension, which can lead to more anxiety, which in turn can lead to such things as clinical depression, neuroses and psychoses. We all have to deal with worry at times. The issue is what we do with it? That's the subject we'll address this weekend as we continue our look at the baggage we carry. I hope you can join us.
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
