TRUTH OR LEGEND?

Do you know someone who's seen Bigfoot's tracks? What about the Loch Ness Monster? Almost every kid learned at an early age that there really are alligators in the sewers. You know how it goes: someone sees something and tells someone else who then tells someone else. On and on and on it goes until it's hard to separate fact from fiction. This doesn't just happen with alligators and Bigfoot... it happens with spiritual truths as well. You might call them Spiritual Urban Legends.
In the 1940 Disney animated movie, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket sang a song to Pinocchio that said, "Take the straight and narrow path; and if you start to slide - give a little whistle, give a little whistle and always let your conscience be your guide."
A lot of people figure that God wouldn't have given us a conscience if He didn't want us to follow it, and so, when facing tough decisions that involve moral issues, they reason, "It can't be wrong if it feels so right."
Can we trust our conscience? Is it a good spiritual compass that we should rely on when it comes to decision-making? These are just a couple of the questions we'll consider this weekend as we begin a new teaching series called "Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe." I hope you can join us.
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
