HOLLYWOOD'S HIGHEST PAID HYPOCRITE?
Angus T. Jones of CBS's Two and a Half Men, sent shockwaves through the entertainment world this week when he denounced his own show and urged viewers to "Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth."
In a recent interview, Jones said that, although he's been playing the character Jake Harper for the past 9 seasons, his new-found faith in God has caused him to rethink the work that he does and has left him feeling like a hypocrite --an extremely well-paid hypocrite.
The reactions to what Jones has said have been mixed. Some are accusing him of being ungrateful and biting the hand that feeds him. Others are applauding his bravery for having the courage of his convictions and speaking out publicly about his faith, even though what he's said may cost him his career as an actor.
I have never met Angus T. Jones, and so I have nothing to go on beyond what he's said about his relationship with God. Something I do know from scripture and from experience is that one mark of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ is that, as you continue to walk Him, He will open your eyes to things in your life that you may not have regarded as sin in that past, yet you clearly see as being sin now.
The longer we walk with God, the more we'll be amazed at His holiness and our sinfulness. The result of that amazement should be an attitude of humility. This weekend, we'll take a closer look at what that humility is all about as we continue our series "Answering the Call" and see what it means to "Walk Humbly With Our God."
Embracing the journey,
Pastor Rick
