18 INCHES AWAY FROM ETERNAL LIFE

18 inches
There is a true story told about the famous French philosopher Voltaire.  One day he was walking with a friend when they crossed paths with a Christian processional.  Voltaire immediately stopped, stood at attention, and tipped his hat to the procession. His friend, knowing that Voltaire was not a man of faith, asked him to explain his actions.  Voltaire replied, "When God and I pass, we salute each other, but we never speak."

That phrase is a description of the kind of relationship that many people have with God. They believe He exists.  They can't explain the universe without Him, but they maintain no personal relationship with Him.  They salute, but they do not speak.

Have you ever thought about the fact that some people will miss heaven by eighteen inches.  Eighteen inches? That's the distance between the head and the heart.  There are some who have an intellectual knowledge concerning Jesus, but they've stopped short of a heart acceptance of Him as their own personal Lord and Savior.

The Bible says that "if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  Romans 10:9

This weekend we'll consider some ways to close that eighteen inch gap between head and heart as we conclude our "40 Days in the Word" series by looking at "Integrating Gods Word Into My Life."  I hope you can join us!

Embracing the journey,

Pastor Rick
