It's all about the nickel.
 Nickel the mineral (not the coin in your pocket) is the main reason for the recent upswing in stainless steel pricing. For those who do not know, nickel increases an alloys resistance to corrosion and it's ability to withstand extreme temperatures. Indonesia is the worlds largest producing country of nickel but they have recently imposed a ban on on the exports of mineral ore (including nickel) which is why we are now seeing the price increases on stainless.
