TOGETHER
SHAPING THE FUTURE
Welcome to our January Newsletter!

We hope your new year is off to a successful start!  This month we are pleased to feature two of our associates: Sheri Painter with Legal Shield and Dr. Stuart Kipper's local San Diego Concierge Medical Practice.

One of the things we do best at Grace Care is to offer our clients and their families education and exposure to the many resources in the community that are available to them. We love to facilitate options for care, which further our clients health and quality of life.

Having legal resources and support available at minimal cost whenever you need them is a huge comfort. Having the choice to engage a physician who specializes in personalized care, such as calling you back personally when you have a health concern, scheduling a same day appointment or even coming to your home to see you is truly an amazing upgrade to the quality of primary care.  Because of this, we hope you enjoy reading how Legal Shield and Concierge Medicine Practices, such as Dr. Stuart Kipper's, can benefit you.

Grace Care is about supporting increased choice for our clients and their families. We are about supporting the whole person, the whole health care team and every aspect of our client's lives.  We only work with the very best in their respective fields. Stay tuned as we continue to highlight in this newsletter the wonderful community resources we can help you, your family and your network with!

Abundant Blessings this month and always!

SPREAD THE WORD:
MEDICARE'S IMPROVEMENT STANDARD NO LONGER APPLIES!
By: Cindy Hasz LVN, CMC
For the fifteen years of my geriatric care management practice in San Diego, it was just the way it was: elders who needed extended post-acute therapy got cut off far too soon. No one got all the therapy they needed and that's just what all of us thought was par for the course.

Elders recovering from strokes and broken hips etc. were discontinued from their physical and occupational or speech therapy far too soon with sad and often tragic outcomes. Everyone knew the drill: therapy would be denied if the patient failed to make what Medicare deemed "significant progress" in a fairly short amount of time.

What Grace Care clients often did in that situation was to find and hire private physical therapists. Many of my clients worked literally for years with these dedicated professionals to maintain their health status and mobility. This activity has no doubt extended life and wellness well past what would have been without it. Yet I recently discovered that we now have another avenue to get people the help and therapy they need. Read more →

OUR INTERVIEW WITH DR. STUART B. KIPPER, MD
San Diego Concierge Physician

Grace Care is excited to feature Dr. Kipper's  concierge medical practice this month.  We think very highly of Dr. Kipper, his Encinitas based team and the care they provide to our patients.

In our featured interview, Dr. Kipper answers some important questions about his services, what "concierge" exactly means, how it differs from standard office based practice, and his experience working with a care management team.   We thank Dr. Kipper for his time in answering our questions about his practice, and we encourage anyone looking for a San Diego based concierge physician to give his office a call. Read more →

OUR INTERVIEW WITH SHERI PAINTER
Legal Shield Director
Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist

This last year, Grace Care had the pleasure of meeting Sheri Painter of Legal Shield.  Sheri is a Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist, and a good one at that.  Not only were we interested in learning how to protect ourselves from identity theft, but as Care Managers we needed a resource for our elders who are at high risk.  Legal Shield not only offers protection but also legal support you can depend on.  They are affordable, reliable and have proven to be an excellent resource to us.

In our featured interview, Sheri helps answer important questions about identity theft and how Legal Shield can help protect you. Read more →

MEET CAREGIVER NEERAJA RAJAGOPALAN
January 2014 Caregiver of the Month

Neeraja was born in Bangalore, India and moved to California when she was just nine years old.  She is fluent in English and Tamil, her native language. Neeraja grew up with her grandmother, before moving to the states, at a time when her grandmother was caring for her severely mentally disabled uncle, which was her first exposure to caregiving.

After moving to California, Neeraja spent a lot of time volunteering in her mother's special education classroom.  Helping her mother she spent a lot of time with kids with low functioning autism.  This really inspired her to get into the health care field, and driven by motivation Neeraja graduated from UCSD in 2012 with a Neuroscience and Physiology Bachelors Degree.  During this time, she was also able to intern with the Palomar Pomerado Clinical Care Extender Program.  There, Neeraja trained under the hospital nursing staff and got hands on experience in several departments.  She enjoyed her involvement assisting with direct patient care and it gave her the skill-set she needed to become a caregiver. Read more →
