Site-specific NPI Implementation Suspension

In the June 2, 2015 Provider Communication Bulletin, Smoky notified all contracted providers that they were required to obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) for each billable site that provides services to Smoky consumers.

Due to multiple implementation issues with NCTracks, Smoky has decided to suspend this requirement until further notice. Once all issues have been addressed Smoky will provide additional guidance
If your agency has questions or concerns call 1-866-990-9712, dial 3 for a provider relations team member or email your questions or concerns to providerinfo@smokymountaincenter.com.

Quick tip for completing CAQH applications

The Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) contract states that all Smoky licensed practitioners must identify an on-call designee when applying for credentialing and recredentialing.
This is addressed in question number nine of the CAQH application, (arrangements for 24/7 coverage). A detailed explanation for managing emergencies that occur after hours is required for this question. The following are examples of unacceptable responses:
  • No
  • Yes
  • N/A
  • Call 911
  • Refer to Emergency Department
Applications that do not specifically identify an on-call designee will be pended for this required information. Contact your Smoky credentialing team at credentialingteam@smokymountaincenter.com or call 1-855-432-9139 to answer any questions or concerns.
