Changes in psychiatric residential treatment billing requirements
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services has announced a change in billing requirements for all institutional (UB-04/837-I) claims for Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) services. Beginning July 1, 2015, all institutional claims for PRTF services must include the name and National Provider Identification (NPI) of the beneficiary's attending psychiatrist and billing provider.
To meet this requirement, all psychiatrists and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) involved in delivering PRTF services will be required to be credentialed by Smoky.
To start this process, practitioners must submit the Credentialing Initiation Form (CIF) found on the credentialing webpage of the Smoky website. This form includes submission instructions.
The credentialing process takes 15 to 60 business days, depending on the accuracy of submitted documentation. Any psychiatrist or APRN must be credentialed by Smoky to bill for services rendered after July 1, 2015. Retroactive billing and payment will be processed for these providers who have submitted a complete credentialing packet by June 30, 2015, and are subsequently credentialed through Smoky.
If you have questions, email credentialingteam@smokymountaincenter.com or call us at 1-855-432-9139. For more information, visit our website.
