Presidential Announcement Dear Members of the Conservatory Community, On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce the appointment of David H. Stull as President of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, effective July 1, 2013. This appointment is the culmination of a patient and thorough process undertaken by the Search Committee, which included members of the faculty, the staff and the Board of Trustees. I commend their hard work and their dedication. In particular, I wish to thank Barbara Walkowski for her brilliant leadership as Chair of the Search Committee. The Board sees in David Stull a tested and inspiring educator, whose great initiative and relentless pursuit of excellence will enable us to build upon the Conservatory's amazing growth under the presidency of Colin Murdoch. The Board of Trustees is unanimous in the belief that David's outstanding leadership will guide the Conservatory into its centennial celebration in 2017 and beyond. He will treasure and preserve what is distinctive about our school yet help us to develop the institution's resources and shape a conservatory that fully equips its students for the demands of a new century. We are honored and privileged to welcome him to our community. David is currently Dean of the Conservatory and Professor of Brass Studies at Oberlin College. He joined Oberlin in the year 2000 and has served in his current capacity for the past nine years. Before his association with Oberlin, he held positions of increasing importance with the Aspen Music Festival, The Juilliard School and Lawrence University. At Oberlin he has enhanced academic programs, strengthened the Conservatory's endowment and successfully completed a major capital project on campus. His vast experience and energy are undoubtedly the attributes the Search Committee considered essential for the president's office. At the same time, the committee members also believe his vision for excellence and ability to engage others in this passionate conviction is critical to our future success.
