News from the Graduate School:
Child Care Funding for Students with Children more than Doubles 

Child care grant funding for students with children will more than double for academic year 2015-16, President Elizabeth Garrett announced. Funding will increase from $100,000 to $250,000.

The increased funding impacts both the number of grants that can be awarded and the amount of each grant.

Student Child Care Grant Program Accepting Applications!
 
The Graduate School is pleased to announce the availability of child care grants to subsidize childcare expenses for full-time Cornell student families who fall within the eligibility guidelines.  Applications are available now and will be due on Friday, October 16, 2015.  More details and application available on this site:  http://studentparents.dos.cornell.edu/

Dean Knuth at Orientation 2015
 
Barbara A. Knuth, senior vice provost and dean of the Graduate School, was named as a Fellow of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) at the society's 145th Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon. Knuth was part of the inaugural group of Fellows named under the new AFS program that designates as Fellows of the Society certain members who have made outstanding or meritorious contributions to the diversity of fields that are included in the American Fisheries Society. 

Contributions include, but are not restricted to, accomplishments in leadership, research, teaching and mentoring, fisheries resource management and/or conservation, and outreach or interaction with the public.

German Academic Exchange Fellowships


 

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Fellowships are now accepting applications for 2016-2017. DAAD fellowships carry tuition and fees, monthly stipends, and a stipend to defray travel costs. The fellowships enable students to study at a German university or work on a research project in Germany (Research Grants).

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowships

The application for the 2016 Fulbright-Hays DDRA fellowship may open late fall 2015. GRASSHOPR Fellowship Application Now Open

GRASSHOPR pairs graduate student fellows with local teachers in Tompkins County school districts to teach a fellow-designed mini-course.  The courses are 3-5 lessons long and you are welcome to propose a course on any subject.  The 2015-2016 Graduate Fellow Application is now open, through Saturday, September 26.

SPARK Talks: Scholars Present About Research & Knowledge

Cornell Library invites all Cornell graduate students and postdocs to participate in SPARK Talks: Scholars Present About Research and Knowledge, a program of five-minute lightning talks.

SPARK Talks provides an opportunity to present to a wider audience, to get feedback on the presentation, and network about research. Graduate students and postdocs can participate either by presenting or attending as an audience member.

To apply, submit a brief proposal by September 25.

The fall 2015 theme is Intersection[s]. Proposals are reviewed by a cross-discipline committee of librarians and up to ten are selected for their intriguing and stimulating treatment of the theme.
