Cornell Travel Registry

Cornell provides a free assistance program to all students, faculty, and staff traveling on university business 50 miles or more away from campus. Cornell's vendor, UHC Global Assistance (formerly FrontierMEDEX), provides emergency evacuation assistance, medical referrals worldwide, and travel assistance in emergency situations. We encourage you to visit Cornell's Travel Assistance website to print a Global Assistance card with Cornell's UHC ID# so that you can more quickly access health, safety, and security services should you need them while on In Absentia status. Further, more information about staying safe abroad and using Cornell's Travel Registry website is found here. Additional information is available at this site about contacting Cornell Police (607-255-111) for urgent health, safety, and security concerns while away from campus and for contacting UHC Global Assistance in a medical emergency while abroad.

Before beginning any Cornell-related international travel, students must register at Cornell's Travel Registry, a secure system to record travel plans and contact information that supports emergency communications and emergency travel assistance while abroad. Once registered, students receive a confirmation message by email, which should be submitted with any petition to request In Absentia status during the academic year.

From the Graduate School Registrar:

Conference Travel Grant Applications

The Graduate School provides grants to all research graduate students who are invited to present papers or posters at professional conferences. Award amounts are based on geographic location, not actual expenses (i.e., a student attending a conference in Italy may receive the full $675, but a student attending a conference in Washington, D.C., may receive $225). Awards will not, under any circumstances, exceed $675. The Graduate School tries to fund most requests from students who meet the eligibility criteria and observe the application procedures.

Local Summer Concert Series

4th Annual IT@Cornell Community Conference

June 25 in Bailey Hall

This year, in honor of Cornell's sesquicentennial, we explore the theme of "Connecting the Past, Present and Future" of technology. There is no fee for the conference, and, for the first time, we have opened the event to people beyond the Cornell community.

In the first of two interactive morning plenaries, Ken King (former CIO at Cornell and President of Educom) and Ira Fuchs (co-founder of BitNet and former CIO of Princeton) will have an informal conversation featuring entertaining stories about their decades-long record of accomplishments, collaboration, and friendship. Ken and Ira were key contributors to the development of the Internet, where Cornell's contributions were front and center.

They will be followed by Maria Klawe (President, Harvey Mudd College) and Irene Qualters (Director, Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at NSF), who will challenge one another on topics including leadership, innovation, diversity, tech start-ups, IT careers, and more.

Afternoon breakout sessions include:

  • Academic Technologies: What's new in classroom technology; Learn about MOOCs.
  • Cloudification services: Cornell's next steps in moving to the cloud.
  • The IT career framework: Creating a professional online presence.
  • Tech Tools: What's new in Office 365, and more.
  • And much, much more!

The conference begins at 8:30am with a light breakfast and registration on the Bailey Hall terrace. The morning plenaries begin at 9:00am. Please visit the conference website for all the details and to register.
