Graduate School Announcements:

Kudos

Congratulations to
Christopher Frewin, a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering, who was accepted as a Spark Clean Energy Fellow.

The Spark Clean Energy Fellowship is a unique fellowship where 15 fellows from across the country travel to Berkeley, California to discuss major issues in the clean energy landscape in terms of both student innovation and engagement. Fellows work on tangible deliverables until February when they present their projects at the MIT energy conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Chris's team is developing a $50,000 scholarship for 10 undergraduates. The scholarship will allow the undergraduates to intern at a clean energy company or start up during the summer of 2015. The scholarship aims to remove some of the financial risks associated with working at a smaller company or start up. The scholarship will be open to any undergraduate in the United States.Check out http://www.sparkcleanenergy.org/2014-fellowship.html for more information on the Spark Clean Energy Fellowship!

High Profile Scientific Publishing Workshop

Tuesday December 2, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., 226 Weill

Publishing your research and having it acknowledged by your peers is a necessary step deeply embedded in the scientific research process.

Whether you are considering a career in academia or in industry, your publishing record will be an important criterion that will determine your chances of getting that dream job. This workshop is not intended to list the technical aspects of manuscript writing, but rather offer a perspective from an editor's point of view and most of all engage you in a conversation on how to valorize your work. It will also attempt to demystify the "black box" of publishing and behind the scenes of manuscript processing from the moment it is submitted to the moment a decision is made.

Speaker:  Hélène Hodak, Ph.D - Scientific Editor, Journal of Molecular Biology

Sponsored by the Office of Postdoctoral Studies
