From the Registrar: 

Add period continues through February 8

This Friday, February 8th, is the last day of the Add period.  This means that students will not be able to self-enroll after Friday.  It is very important that all registered students have enrollment. For class schedules and information, please access the Courses of Study:  http://courses.cornell.edu/.

 

Drop period continues until March 8

The drop period for Spring 2013 continues through March 8. During this period, students can drop courses. Visit your student center to drop classes.    

 

Graduate Students Engaged in Research:  

 

Graduate students who will be engaged in research, require registration in order to receive their funding, and/or are NOT taking classes, you MUST enroll in the Graduate School's Master's Thesis Research course (class number 12594) or the Doctoral Dissertation Research course (class number 12593 or 12595).

Future Faculty Workshop Series on Mentoring

 

A set of lunchtime workshops about mentoring undergraduate research kicks off Wednesday, February 13, part of the new "Building Mentoring Skills for a Career in Academia" series. Sponsored by the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CU-CIRTL), the series is aimed at graduate students and postdocs considering academic careers in natural and social sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

CCTEC Seminar and Social Hour 

Speaker: Professor Anil Netravali, Fiber Science & Apparel Design

 

Explore the commercial potential of plastics and polymer composites. The majority of conventional plastics and composites are currently derived from petroleum and utilize hazardous and toxic processes that may be harmful to nature. Biodegradable polymers derived from plants are environmentally friendly, carbon-neutral, and renewable. Their use is predicted to grow by double digits over the next 10-20 years. This presentation will discuss development of sustainable resins derived from starches and proteins and the fabrication of green composites and nanocomposites.

Assistant Residential Hall Director (ARHD)

 

The ARHD is a graduate or professional student position designed to contribute to the overall mission of Residential Programs in creating an exceptional on-campus living experience for residential students. 

 

The ARHD position is a 15-hour/week, live-in position in a first-year or Program House community.  Benefits include:  on-campus furnished living space with telephone and ResNet (August through May); Stipend of $2,000 (1st academic year), $2,500 (2nd academic year), and $3,000 (3rd academic year);  Partial tuition credit:  $5,000/year ($2,500/semester); Big Red Bucks: $800/year ($400/semester); Gym membership; bus pass.  Applications are due March 8, 2013.  More information is found:

Featured Events:

Sexual Assault Support Group (for women)

Begins February 12

 

Women who have experienced unwanted sexual contact and/or other forms of sexual trauma are encouraged to consider whether this private and confidential support group may be helpful to them. 

 

The group will be a space for women who have experienced sexual assault in recent months or years to gain support from one another and explore ways to heal in the aftermath of an assault.

 

This 10-week group is open to undergraduate, graduate and professional female students beginning February 12, 2013 and will continue through spring semester. 

 

Meeting time is Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Once started, the group will be closed to new members.  Call CAPS (255-5155) to discuss joining this group or accessing individual support.

The Reppy Institute Offers Fellowships for 2013-2014

 

These fellowships will cover tuition plus a stipend and health insurance.
