How to Properly Dispose of Paint

Do you have partially filled cans of paint that you'd likPaint Canse to discard, but not sure how to do it?

Here is how you can safely dispose of latex paint.  Remember to always keep your paint away from children or pets as you do the following:

Small Quantities can be disposed of by simply taking the lid off the can and letting the paint dry.  Once the paint is completely dry, the paint can may be taken to the Athens-Limestone Recycling Center.

Larger quantities can be disposed of by pouring the paint into a cardboard box lined with a plastic bag so that it will dry more quickly.  To speed up the drying process, add kitty litter, shredded paper, or a purchased drying agent.  Once the paint is completely dry, you may place the trash bag in your garbage can.  The paint can may then be taken to the Athens-Limestone Recycling Center.

Make primer by mixing any light colors together and use on your next project!

Oil based paints and paint such as Kilz can only be properly disposed of at a Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

We hope that helps!

BUSINESS RECYCLING
FREE IN LIMESTONE COUNTY

Dumpter space is expensive, especially if a business has to have their dumpster(s) serviced frequently.

The Athens-Limestone Recycling Center's business recycling program can save businesses money!

Our recycling center will provide a bBusiness Cardboard Cageusiness in Athens-Limestone County with a cardboard collection cage and service it free of charge on an agreed upon schedule.

If your business creates office paper waste, our center can set you up for recycling that as well!

Any amount of material kept out of a business dumpster could mean reducing the size of the dumpster or requring less dumps -- both of which will save a business money.

For information on business recycling, call the Athens-Limestone Recycling Center at 256-233-8746.
