First Edition
Let's Journey Together!
Summer Sundays ~ 9:30 in Cook Hall
This week: "T
he Lost Art of Tracking"
Several hundred years ago, when Native Americans, the First Nation, inhabited and loved this land we now call America, they had a very close and intimate relationship with nature.  They could read the signs and stories a forest could tell, information gleaned from the smell of the soil, or branches broken on a path. Learning to read the messages and lessons embedded in nature is a skill and art most of us have lost. And in losing that,
have we not lost more than our path through the woods?

Breakfast is being provided this Sunday by Kerri and Beth. Can you host breakfast one Sunday?

MEALS-TO-GO - Help stock the freezer!
During the summer our Sunday Kitchen crew takes a break. But there are still 12-15 folks who look forward to that extra healthy, home cooked meal. Could you prepare enough for 20 one weekend this summer? Or how about packaging and labeling the extra (aka "leftovers"), and putting it in the church freezer so we can continue to help others?

Habitat house underway in Granby!
The foundation is in! And Don Shaw has managed to reserve five Saturdays for work teams from Granby's two UCC congregations. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the church office. There are just a couple of spots left.

ABOUT THE YOUTH PERSPECTIVE TRIP, July 31 - Aug 6
 While in Washington DC...       art+soul+justice
THE SANCTUARIES is a modern spiritual community of young adults trying to harness the power of the creative arts to transform two of the most divisive issues of our time - race & religion - into forces for personal growth and social change.
It is not a church, but it's led by a Harvard Divinity graduate Rev.  Erik Resly.  They have members of all different faiths and no  formal institutional faith.  This community has been featured in  the New York Times, the Huffington  Post, and on news and talk  shows.

It has been called a Diverse Arts Community with Soul, where a  Muslim woman can share her thoughts about 'the sacred'  alongside a hip hop recording artist -  each claiming his/her own  spiritual voice, and finding communion through artistic  collaboration that promotes social change.  It's different.  The  expression of faith is changing in our times, so I wanted our youth  to see something new,  something different, but something intensely spiritual.  Tuesday night,  August 2nd we will  experience an interactive art+soul+justice workshop with the Sanctuary Artists - downtown  DC in a print shop!
