Faith is like...
a walk in the woods?  
A walk in the woods, a place to find God, a chance to experience peace in nature, right?
Not so for the McLean Game Preserve hikers earlier this year who encountered an "aggressive" bear. (And unfortunately for the bear, McLean turned out not to be a game sanctuary after all.) Continental breakfast is on at 9 am and worship starts at 9:30. Special music features Hunter singing "Into the Woods" and music by a pick-up bell choir.

BELL RINGERS SUNDAY
This Sunday a pick-up bell choir will rehearse at 8:45 to prepare the music. Come try it out!

Prayers for President Jimmy Carter
As we hold President Carter in our thoughts and prayers now that he is facing treatment for cancer, Don Shaw shared this... an adult Bible Study class he taught in Haiti. Give yourself a gift and set aside 37 minutes to take a listen.
 
Our NEW SUNDAY SCHOOLHOUSE is coming together!
Thanks to Sherry & Kevin Kittelsen, Hank Prussing, Ron Beaudoin, our middle school boys, and everyone who is helping with the basement renovation!
THE GATHERING ROOM/ Brick room will be a performance space for Sunday mornings to feature youth talent, explore cool themes, watch & discuss videos, and try out student ideas (new and untried?) for church in our times! 
THE TWO BREAKOUT ROOMS:  One for our HANDS and one for our HEADS.       Hands-on work with crafts, sewing, painting, constructing, or learning a skill.  
Head-work (& Heart-work) through discussion, internet research, you-tube videos, debate, what-ifs, drama, dance, and yoga. 
GODLY PLAY ROOM and the NURSERY are also being remodeled.  
AND ALL THESE ROOMS should be ready by Apple Fest!
First official Sunday for the new SCHOOL HOUSE is Sept 20th, but we take a tour of it during the service on Sept 13th.  Bring a friend on the 20th!
G CREW Parents meeting this Sunday, Aug 30th, 7:30 in the G Crew room. G Crew Pool party at Rachel's from 1 - 5pm.  5 Lower Meadow, in West Granby.
Freshman Faith-ED class will meet every Thursday, starting Sept 17th, 7pm.
AppleFest is September 19th
Fall is on its way and, with it, our biggest fundraiser of the year. The Connections Committee is busy at work planning our 4th AppleFest. We will have some of the attractions that have made our event bigger every year... creative crafters and vendors, an elaborate bake sale and a lunch station with out-of-this-world chili and soups. Our very popular tag sale will start earlier this year for early-bird shoppers, and of course our famous cheese bread, baked by First Church men-and-friends is always a highlight. New this year will be raffled-off themed gift baskets that we hope everyone will help with. Please sign up on the volunteer list outside of Cook Hall if you can lend a hand. Contact anyone on Connections if you have questions.

Bakers Needed for AppleFest bake sale!!   
Shoppers love apple desserts of any kind. Pies are especially appreciated! Or you can bake cookies or brownies that can be sold by the piece. Sign up on the sheet outside Cook Hall or email  Peg with name, phone & item.  Food should be left in the MUSIC ROOM Friday, September 18 no later than 7pm or Saturday, September 19 before 9am.  
You may donate items to the Tag Sale

NO books, VHS tapes or clothes
