First Edition
Let's Journey Together!
CAFE CHURCH Sunday
Faith is like... gardening?
We'll be looking at Jesus' gardening advice (let the weeds grow among the good plants!) and consider how this might be true in the arena of a growing faith... if not in the backyard. Special music to include "The Garden Song" (aka "Inch by Inch") and "Homegrown Tomatoes." Of course, you'll want to take home some of the beautiful fresh produce that's coming out of our Community Garden across the street. See you Sunday!
Continental Breakfast available from 9 a.m., hosted by Pastor Ginny and Doug Williams.

G Crew- Leaving tomorrow for West Virginia!

We load at 8am and depart 9am sharp. Your prayers are appreciated as we step into the lives of these families of Appalachia. May this experience change the way we see our own lives, what we think we want, what we think we need, and the responsibility we have to the human community at large. Thank you all for the tremendous financial support you have given us this year! We return late Saturday night, August 15th. Check the church Facebook page for updates.

Exciting changes are underway for the Sunday Schoolhouse...

We wanted to get away from the standard Sunday School look and feel for Fall 2015. Old tables and mismatched chairs? Caucasian Jesus pictured on the wall holding a lamb? Institutional fluorescent lighting? Our 1960s basement classrooms were overdue for a facelift!

The design suggestions from our middle school boys resembled a blackbox theatre with carpeted risers for seating and a stage area with a brick wall backdrop. Hank Prussing (artist and architect from our church) took their ideas and created detailed design plans for this new performance space/gathering room. He, with some of the boys, have been creating the brick wall for the past two weeks and Kevin Kittelsen will complete the transformation during August. It won't look like your mama's Sunday school room, nor will it look like yours!

It's a dream coming true! ...to be unveiled by APPLEFEST!

For the scientists and skeptics among us...

Book Talk - September 14, 7pm at
Hartford Seminary
A God That Could Be Real

Author Nancy Abrams, atheist philosopher of science, had a personal experience of a "higher power" in a 12-step program which coincided with her front-row seat to some of the greatest astronomical discoveries of all time. Her husband, renowned physicist and cosmologist Joel Primack, helped create the modern theory of the universe, based on dark matter and dark energy. In this book, she writes about seeking a higher power that could be plausible in the new picture of the universe.

AppleFest is September 19th

Fall is on its way and, with it, our biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Connections Committee is busy at work planning our 4th AppleFest. We will have some of the attractions that have made our event bigger every year... creative crafters and vendors, an elaborate bake sale and a lunch station with out-of-this-world chili and soups. Our very popular tag sale will start earlier this year for early-bird shoppers, and of course our famous cheese bread, baked by First Church men-and-friends is always a highlight.

New this year will be raffled-off themed gift baskets that we hope everyone will help with. Please sign up on the volunteer list outside of Cook Hall if you can lend a hand. Contact anyone on Connections if you have questions.

You may donate items to the Tag Sale
Sept. 13-18 ONLY
We will not accept books, VHS videos or clothes.
