Do you know a good thing when you see it? A lot of residents did when they decided to participate in the Roanoke 100-Miler last winter. As a result of the program, in January 2012 approximately 850 people got off the couch and onto the greenways and trails throughout the Roanoke region to get physically fit for the new year. Volunteer to Be a Tree Steward Roanoke Parks and Recreation is offering a Tree Steward course to train volunteers to provide tree care. The 10-week course begins on Jan. 7 and meets on Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the City of Roanoke Municipal Building, located at 215 Church Ave. Three additional Saturday field sessions will be required to complete the program.
