Aloha ,
Hale La'a Boulevard was recently given a "sprucing up" in preparation for the upcoming celebration events for the 150th anniversary of the LDS Church in Laie.
This past Saturday, members of the Laie Hawaii Young Single Adult 1st and 2nd Stakes, and the Married Student Stake, repainted the white caps on the blue rock walls that adorn the roadway leading to the temple, and the temple beach garden.

The beautification project was originally planned several weeks ago, but had to be delayed due to rainy weather.

"Everyone had a great time painting and working to help beautify this most important street in Laie," said Billy Casey, Jr., president of the Young Single Adult 2nd Stake.

Hale La'a to be temporarily closed for paver work
Also, as part of reconstruction work on Hale La'a, a short section of the boulevard will soon be temporarily closed.
From the morning of Thursday, Oct. 29 through Monday, Nov. 2, the section of Hale La'a from Kamehameha Highway to the roundabout circle will closed to replace the paver stones in the crosswalks.

The replacement of the paver stones follows the recent repaving of Hale La'a by the City & County of Honolulu. The City's repaving project is nearing completion for the remainder of the streets in Laie.
Kulanui Street to be re-striped soon
In coming days Kulanui Street will be re-striped as part of planned improvements previously announced by land management company, Hawaii Reserves, Inc. The striping follows recent repaving of the main street by City work crews.

The improvements include increasing the travel way to 24 feet, adding 6 foot bike lanes on each side of the street, changing parking from perpendicular to parallel parking, and installing trees and irrigation along the street.

"The planned upgrades, including bike lanes and parallel parking, will increase safety along the street and help beautify the area," said Jeff Tyau, vice president of operations at HRI.
We encourage everyone to check out the schedule of upcoming celebration events on the Laie150.org website. For more about the website, please see our last newsletter.
