L&L's Hawaiian Barbeque restaurant is making final preparations to relocate soon to the Food Court section of the Laie Shopping Center. In recent weeks residents and shopping center patrons have noticed the in-line space being improved, and the new L&L's sign was installed a couple of weeks ago.

As previously announced, the building that currently houses L&L's will be demolished to make way for the new gas station being developed by Aloha Petroleum and Foodland (see project update below).

The current L&L's location is scheduled to shut its doors at the close of business on Saturday, December 20th. It is tentatively scheduled to reopen the following Monday in its new location next to Taco Bell.

"We are working hard to hopefully experience no 'down time' from the move," said Lingmin Dong, owner of the Laie L&L's. "We value and appreciate the local community and are excited to be relocating to a brand new facility to better serve our loyal customers."

The current L&L's building will be demolished next month to make way for the creation of more parking stalls and site preparation work for the new Laie gas station. As part of the L&L's transition, the public restroom for the shopping center will be relocated to the space previously occupied by Da Kine Wireless.

Update: Laie Gas Station

Plans for a new, co-branded Aloha Petroleum and Foodland Supermarkets gas station in Laie are progressing well. Aloha and Foodland anticipate that construction will begin in February, pending the approval of building permits that were submitted in October.

Aloha's President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Parry said, "The permitting process has been going well, and we believe we're on schedule for our targeted opening in early summer 2015."

Parry added, "Aloha and Foodland are really looking forward to serving both local residents and visitors to this beautiful part of Oahu."

As announced, Foodland customers will be able to enjoy a fuel discount at the new station when they present their Maika'i card, and participate in other gas promotions throughout the year for even greater savings.

Update: Laie McDonald's

Things are also moving along with work to relocate the Laie McDonald's. As previously reported, Laie-based companies, Solo Corp., and I
osepa Electric, began work in August to get the site ready for McDonald's to construct its restaurant building.

That site prep work is now finished, the pad for the new restaurant is ready, and McDonald's has the permits needed to begin construction.

Getting approval from Hawaiian Electric Co., for power to the new site is taking longer than expected. However, McDonald's and land manager Hawaii Reserves, Inc., are hopeful that this issue will be resolved soon so that construction can start early next year. Other utilities are in place.

"We anticipate construction and finishing of the new building to take approximately four months," said Keith Romine, Development Manager for McDonald's Corporation. He added, "If we're able to start construction in January, our targeted opening will be sometime in early Summer."
