We will soon see some changes in our neighborhood to make way for the new Laie hotel. McDonald's of Hawaii just announced that its longtime Laie restaurant will close February 10th. McDonald's is in the process of finalizing plans to relocate and has filed building permits for a location further north on the property along Kamehameha Highway.

"Our first priority is to assure our employees, many of whom are from this community and have been with us for years, can continue their careers with McDonald's," said Susan Smith, McDonald's of Laie owner and operator. "All current McDonald's of Laie employees are being offered positions at other restaurants."
"We enjoy having been a part of this community for nearly three decades and look forward to continuing to serve our customers at the new location," said Faafetai Akoi, Laie resident and McDonald's of Laie general manager.

Land manager Hawaii Reserves, Inc., is leasing the land for both projects. Eric Beaver, president of HRI said, "As previously announced, the new hotel will be a three-story Marriott Courtyard, developed by Laie Ventures, LLC, led by Dan Gifford and Brent Wood. After years of effort by many, many people, we are so grateful and excited to be at this point."
Beaver also added, "We've made progress on the gas station planned for Laie Shopping Center, and we expect to share more details on the new station soon."

We recognize the efforts of Eric Beaver and the HRI team that have been instrumental in getting us to this point."
"The hotel will be a great asset for the community and we anticipate a mobilization and groundbreaking in the next several weeks."

"While there will be some inconvenience with the temporary closure of the McDonald's, we realize this means progress for our community and we're really looking forward to the new hotel and a new McDonald's," said Pane Meatoga, Laie Community Association president.
