Aloha ,

Things are moving foward with the relocation of the Laie Chevron. A letter of intent has been signed to bring a Chevron gas station to the Laie Shopping Center, and construction of the new station could begin later this year.

Gennesart Group, Inc. (GGI) is the developer of the new gas station replacing the existing Laie Chevron that is closing tomorrow to make way for the new Laie Hotel. Abraham Aborida, a principal of GGI, owns three gas stations; one in Pearl City, one in Honolulu and one in California.

Hawaii Reserves, Inc. (HRI), which will be leasing the ground to GGI, has been in discussions with Aborida and GGI about developing the Chevron station over the past year.

Plans call for the gas station to be sited at the shopping center in the area where the L&L Hawaiian Barbeque (L&L's) and some parking is currently located. The new station is planned to have eight gas dispensers, a roughly 2,000 square foot convenience store, and a car wash. The residential lot just south of the center will be redeveloped for replacement parking and L&L's will be relocated to a portion of the old Bank of Hawaii shopping center space.

"We've been looking at this project for sometime so we're happy to be at this point," said Aborida. He added, "We like the values of this community and are looking forward to being an active part of it. We're excited about this project and intend to move as quickly as possible to finalize design and permitting, and begin construction."

"In our discussions with Chevron, we learned that Mr. Aborida is well respected by Chevron corporate," said R. Eric Beaver, president of HRI. "Abraham has solid industry experience and values that will be complementary to the character of our community."

Beaver added, "We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we work through this temporary inconvenience. We've been working to minimize the gap in service between the closing of the existing Laie Chevron, and the opening of the new one, so we're pleased to be moving forward."

We will continue to keep the community informed of progress as more information becomes available in the weeks and months ahead.
