Greetings!
Of what does our Christian faith consist? What do we understand it to be and to do? How can we share it with others?
John Calvin wrote:
Now we shall possess a right definition of faith if we call it a firm and certain knowledge of God's benevolence toward us, founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ, both revealed to our minds and sealed upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
[Institutes of the Christian Religion (Philadelphia: Westminster, 1960), Book III, Chap. 2, sect. 7, p. 551]
So let us thankfully receive Christ's freely given promise, let us gladly hold onto the knowledge of God's benevolence, and let us gratefully rejoice in the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Thus are we saved.
