F2S Garden Heroes:
Department of Health
Many thanks to Linnea who worked as an ACORN intern at ten school gardens this summer. As you can imagine that's a lot of weeds and tending.
We are grateul to Moira Cook at the Middlebury Office of the Department of Health. With her help she created momentum for her employees to carry on work in the gardens as part of community service.
Our school gardens are ready for a few extra hands now that Linnea has completed the internship. Community partners are welcome to help buff up gardens. Are you a business owner looking to engage your staff in wellness as part of your benefit plan? Consider working in school gardens. ACORN can help match our community and school gardens with your employees to everyone's benefit. Contact Annie if you are interested

Power Up!
Addison County and Vermont in general, is in a robust and green energy boom. Two notable businesses are helping all Vermonters access the sun and reduce their total yearly energy costs. Focus is on both home energy savings and creating new uses for open farmland. Both companies provide services with no upfront costs to the cinsumer.
The program offers monetary benefits to the hosts and electricity "off-takers", and it requires NO investment. They will even offer you the option of purchasing the project after seven years for "fair market value". If you have land near three-phase power lines with good south facing exposure, they would be interested in talking to you. You may reach them at 802 385 1911 or at info@acornenergycoop.com. Membership in the Acorn Energy Co-op has many benefits, including deep discounts on a premium solar hot water system, competitive residential solar PV systems, as well as bulk pellet storage systems and bulk pellet home delivery. Members also receive discounts from numerous area business partners that offer energy products and services. JOIN TODAY! Another option around local energy sourcing is SunCommon. Their mission statement:"We believe that everyone has the right to a healthy environment and safer world. Our mission is to tear down the barriers that have made renewable energy inaccessible. We intend to repower our communities one home, one school, and one business at a time. We make going solar easy and affordable so that all Vermonters can together create a healthy environment and safer world." They offer a slate of workshops, ongoing trainings and one-on-one consultations to help you get started on going solar. Check them out online and watch the detailed informational video. |
