Venture Community Services Awarded Three-Year CARF Accreditation
Day Programs in Sturbridge and Leominster Receive Recognition

CARF International announced that Venture Community Services, one of the Commonwealth's leading providers of innovative human services has been accredited for a period of three years for its Community Day Habilitation Programs located in Sturbridge and Leominster.  The latest accreditation is the fourth consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body, CARF, has awarded to Venture.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows Venture's substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. For more information about the accreditation process, please visit the CARF website at www.carf.org.

Venture Community Services is committed to providing compassionate, person-centered services that assist individuals and families in reaching their goals. What began as an organization with two small group homes has grown into one of the largest human service providers in Massachusetts, and with over 700 employees, one of the largest employers in the Worcester County area. Venture has been recognized as a Top Workplace by the Worcester Business Journal and as an Employer of Choice from the Employers Association of the Northeast.  Venture encourages independence through a continuum of support which includes community residential services, day programs, supported employment, transportation, autism supports, adult foster care, and shared living.

SpencerBANK and Southbridge Savings Bank Employees
Support the Fight Against Breast Cancer

SpencerBANK and Southbridge Savings Bank employees have teamed up once again, this time to support the American Cancer Society and those affected by breast cancer. On October 7, they held a Denim Day fundraiser event where participating employees wore the color pink and jeans to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Employees were encouraged to make a donation of any amount to the American Cancer Society, and in return, were allowed to wear jeans for the day. This year, employees collectively raised $952 for the American Cancer Society to help end breast cancer.

"It's so rewarding to see the employees come together again in support of another important cause," said K. Michael Robbins, President and CEO of SpencerBANK. "We are proud to be a part of the movement to end breast cancer, and to help support those affected by this disease."

The American Cancer Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting cancer research, has hosted the annual American Cancer Society Denim Day since 1996. To date, Denim Day participants have raised over $95 million for breast cancer research and prevention. Good Deeds Don't Go Unnoticed during NBSB's Annual Food Drive
NBSB Food Drive
Warren Izyk, Belchertown Branch Manager with Gianna Zenon, Ella Ricker and Renee Jurczyk, Belchertown Assistant Branch Manager, holding some donated items from the girls' birthday party

The NBSB Annual Fall Harvest Food Drive was once again a success, with community members coming together during the month of October to donate non-perishable food items, paper goods and toiletries for local families in need and North Brookfield Savings Bank making contributions to each of the local food pantries. But it was the good deeds of eight-year-olds Gianna Zenon and Ella Ricker at the Belchertown branch that have not gone unnoticed by NBSB during its annual food drive.

While many eight-year-olds will ask for themed birthdays and a wish list of the newest gadgets and toys, Gianna and Ella instead asked their party guests to bring groceries and non-perishable goods in lieu of presents, after seeing notices for the North Brookfield Savings Bank Food Drive. The two friends hosted a joint birthday party, and brought all of their gifted items to the Belchertown branch for the Food Drive.

"To see such young community members already so motivated to help others, and actively participate in our annual food drive, is absolutely heart-warming," said NBSB Senior Vice President of Retail Banking Patty Ostrout. "Serving our community is extremely important at NBSB, and we commend Gianna and Ella for their kindheartedness."

To further express gratitude for Gianna and Ella's generosity and consideration of others above themselves, North Brookfield Savings Bank has helped establish a new High Five Savings account for each girl and gifted them the initial $50 deposit into their accounts.

"It's a wonderful thing to see our communities come together for such a great cause, especially at such a young age," said NBSB Belchertown Branch Manager Warren Izyk. "We can't thank Gianna and Ella enough for their thoughtfulness."

The North Brookfield Savings Bank Belchertown branch is a full-service branch, located at the corner of Route 9 and 202. The branch offers both a drive-up teller lane and a 24-hour ATM, as well as exceptional customer service from experienced NBSB employees. This branch, along with all of NBSB, is currently giving back to the local communities by hosting the Bank's Annual Holiday Toy Drive through December 10. Donations of new and unwrapped toys for children between the ages of infant to 12 years old are being accepted at any branch location. All toys collected will be donated to local toy programs in each community, to ensure that local children in need will receive holiday presents.

In addition, the West Brookfield White Christmas Open House with Mrs. Claus on Sunday, December 4th, is also a great opportunity to visit and contribute to the Annual Toy Drive, all while getting your photo with some admired holiday guests.

About North Brookfield Savings Bank:
North Brookfield Savings Bank is a mutual savings bank with full-service branches in North Brookfield, East Brookfield, West Brookfield, Ware, Belchertown, Palmer, and Three Rivers Village of Palmer and has been "Where It's At" for specially-tailored products and great customer service since 1854. NBSB offers a wide variety of deposit and loan products for individuals and businesses throughout Central and Western Massachusetts and continually supports the communities in which it serves. All deposits are insured by the FDIC and the Depositors Insurance Fund. For additional information, please call 1-866-711-6272 or visit NorthBrookfieldSavingsBank.com.

Harrington's Second Urgent Care Location
Announces Opening for Patient Care
 Oxford Ribbon Cutting
Harrington HealthCare's Chairman of the Board Jay Detarando cuts the ribbon as President and
CEO Ed Moore, local dignitaries and members of the area legislative delegation look on at a
special ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 16.

Harrington HealthCare System has announced its newest UrgentCare Express location at 78 Sutton Avenue in Oxford opened for patient care Monday, November 21. This is the second urgent care location for Harrington, which opened its Charlton location in September 2015.

Located across from the Oxford Retail Crossing Plaza, Market Basket and Home Depot, UrgentCare Express in Oxford will have the same hours of operation as the Charlton site: Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Oxford location includes 11 patient exam rooms, on-site X-ray for patients who need immediate imaging services and a lab draw station for blood work.

The November 21 official opening followed a community open house for the public held on Saturday, November 19 when local residents were invited to tour the facility, meet staff and receive educational material.

"We are continuing to respond to the growing demand in our area for urgent care centers," said Kristin Morales, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Harrington Physician Services. "Our Charlton practice has surpassed all projected volumes in the past year. By adding a second facility in Oxford, we are fulfilling a need in a community where there isn't a lot of option for non-emergency care treatment, while giving the residents in that area better access to high quality health care."

Dr. Robert McCarron, a board-certified physician with more than 30 years' experience in emergency care settings, will be the lead physician on staff, with support from a number of physician assistants and other board-certified physicians.

Dr. Josh Flanagan, a board-certified physician at Harrington's Emergency Departments in Southbridge and Webster, is the medical director for Harrington's UrgentCare Express.

"Their continued partnership with our agency speaks to their generosity and their commitment to people living with disabilities."

Funds from previous donations have been used to construct a multi-sensory room in the Sturbridge Day Program and also for supportive and adaptive yoga for people with disabilities.
The Hoyt Foundation, founded by father-and-son team Dick and Rick Hoyt in 1989, helps build the individual character, self-confidence and self-esteem of America's disabled young people through inclusion in all facets of daily life, including in family and community activities, especially sports, at home, in schools and in the workplace. Sturbridge Rotary Donates Funds for Holiday Meals
Rotary Donates
(L to R) President-Elect Dave Zonia; President Otto Prohaska; Lisa Meunier, Burgess school nurse; Bill Pioppi representing the Food Pantry; Community Service Chair Bob White and Fundraising Chair Peter Zeh.

For the ninth consecutive year, Sturbridge Rotary Club donated funds to organizations providing meals for families in need in the Tri-Community area. Festival of {Giving} Trees - 2016
December 1-4

It's here!! The 2016 Festival of {Giving} Trees is taking place December 1-4. Celebrating our 19th year, this four-day family event is designed to be a holiday activity. The mission of the Festival is to raise money to help the Silent Spring Institute, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and The Cancer Center at Harrington Hospital fight the battle against breast cancer and to help fund cancer research. Over the past eighteen years, the Festival of {Giving} Trees has raised and donated over $500,000 to these beneficiaries.

The Festival of {Giving} Trees features more than 100 uniquely decorated trees on display under one roof. Some are elegant, nostalgic and breathtaking.  Some are humorous, some are traditional and some are really hip. Fireplace Feasts: December 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 16 & 17
Lend a hand as dinner is prepared for you in colonial style or just relax by the fire with a hot glass of mulled cider or wine. Stir the chowder as it bubbles in our cast iron cauldron.  See your prime rib roasted "to a turn" on the only known authentic Roasting Jack still operating in America, rotating slowly over a crackling fire of wild cherry logs.  Beware the brimming bowl of freshly whipped cream, the perfect complement to New England's Best Apple Pie.

While your dinner is cooking to perfection, enjoy a horse drawn wagon or sleigh ride through the valley on the Inn's pristine 600 acres. After your ride, shake off the chill with warm mulled wine or cider at our dining event. Browse our extensive collection of Colonial and Federal period American antiques.

Christmas Memories: December 3, 4, 10, 11 & 17
Christmas at Salem Cross Inn We all look for special and memorable Christmas events to attend with family and friends during the Christmas season. The Challenge? Finding Christmas events that will entertain everyone from Grandma and Grandpa to our dear little toddlers. Look no further, the Christmas Memories series at the Salem Cross Inn is a beautiful and entertaining event to attend with the family.

Start a new tradition this year by coming to the Christmas Memories. Enjoy a play based on Dylan Thomas' "A Child's Christmas in Wales". Listen to the Stageloft Repertory Theater performers dressed in 19th century costumes sing over 20 carols. Better yet, sing along with them and rekindle memories of Christmases past while making memories of the Christmas present. During these Christmas events, the actors circulate throughout the room so everyone feels like a part of the festivities.

What's a Christmas event celebration without food? A traditional New England turkey dinner takes center stage for this one. Start with a tossed garden salad with the chef's homemade creamy Italian dressing and freshly made squash muffins and white dinner rolls. Indulge yourself with fresh, moist turkey, Grandmother's traditional bread stuffing, giblet gravy over real whipped potatoes, and fresh butternut squash seasoned to perfection. Complete your meal with a scoop of peppermint stick ice cream rolled in chocolate cake crumbs, topped with Salem Cross Inn's famous hot fudge, whipped cream, and a candy cane.

Join in the wassail toast and raise a glass to a new tradition. Glasses filled with farm fresh apple cider will be lifted to commemorate the holiday season. The decorations throughout the building are a joy to see. Salem Cross Inn during the winter months is a captivating scene. Bring the family, bring your friends, carve out some time for yourself. Singing Christmas carols brings out the goodness in everyone. Cameras welcome!

Appropriate for all ages.
Advance ticket sales only. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

"Each year, we look forward to this chance to spread holiday cheer and assist local families in need with toy donations," said North Brookfield Savings Bank President & CEO Donna Boulanger.  "Seeing the happy faces of our friends and neighbors each year at our White Christmas event is something we greatly anticipate. We can't wait to see what this year will bring."

Auditions for 'The Cover of LIFE'
December 5 & 6 at 6:30pm
Gateway Players Theatre, 111 Main Street, Southbridge

Auditions for "The Cover of Life", by R.T. Robinson, will be held Monday and Tuesday, Dec 5 & 6 at 6:30 pm. Six women, ages 20-50, and one man in his twenties are needed for this February production directed by Lou-Ellen Corkum. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Dress comfortably and plan to have a fun time. The read-through will be Wed, Dec 7. Rehearsals will pick up after the holidays, but the cast will have several weeks to learn lines in preparation for rehearsals. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday and Tuesdays. Production dates are February 10, 11, 17, 18 & 19. Presented by permission through special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Synopsis:
Tood, Weetsie, and Sybill are brides in rural Louisiana in 1943. Each married a Cliffert brother. The men are off to war and a local news story about these young wives keeping the home fires burning intrigues Henry Luce. He decides that they belong on the cover Life Magazine and assigns Kate Miller to the story. She has been covering the war in Europe and, though she views doing a "women's piece" as a career set back, she accepts because it will be her first cover story. Kate spends a week with the Cliffert women and her haughty urban attitude gives way to sympathy as she begins to understand them while coming face to face with her own powerlessness in a man's world. Filled with charm and fun, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story about the struggle for self worth.

An Acoustic Christmas
The Barn
December 11, 4-7pm

Join us for a special afternoon of holiday and acoustic music at The Barn at Wight Farm. Local music talents, Rob Adams, Jared Fiske, Sean McKinstry and Jay Psaros will be uniting to bring us some extra holiday cheer in the form of beautifully adapted Christmas songs and carols played acoustically on the stage at The Barn. They will also play some of your favorite non-holiday melodies as well. Rob, Jared, and Sean are all impressively talented solo artists and songwriters who also come together as the Casters, an indie-roots rock band working the local Central Massachusetts music scene with a powerful sound and "genre-hopping" jam sessions within their live sets. Joining the trio will be fellow Boston based singer songwriter Jay Psaros. Psaros is currently celebrating the release of his fourth studio release, a self-titled collection of ten songs ranging from mellow crooners to roots rockers.

We are all very excited to have these special artists helping us ring in the holiday season. After the concert, The Barn will provide an optional holiday buffet for $19.95. Doors open at 3:30pm. Tickets for this special holiday concert are only $15 (show only) and can be purchased by clicking on this Eventbrite link. Please call Danielle Green at 774-241-8450 for questions or dinner reservations.
