Country Bank For Our Service Men & Women

Country Bank recently announced their most recent "Commitment to Community" campaign which is to help the men and women serving our country by sending them "comforts of home".

Recently a Country Bank Staff Member, Rachel Mazza came forward with an idea to help the soldiers in a local unit that has been deployed overseas. Rachel explained that very often there is little family involvement and not enough money for them to purchase the items that we so often take for granted. She believed it would be a great opportunity for Country Bank to become involved and give back to our service men and women with the help of customers and friends within their local communities.

To make this idea a reality, the Bank has begun a supply drive at each of their branch locations and their corporate offices on Main and South Streets in Ware. They are inviting the community to join in their mission of collecting the necessary items to be shipped to the troops.

Items in need include: Shampoo, Toothpaste/Toothbrushes & Dental Floss, Sunblock, Body Wash, Soap & Hand Sanitizer, Contact Solution, Playing Cards & Board Games, Razors, Airborne, Candy/Gum, Sanitary Wipes, Foot Powder, Advil/Tylenol, Socks, Toilet Paper, Deodorants, Hand & Body Lotion, Lip Balm, Sunglasses, Snack Foods, Beef Jerky, Trail Mix, DVDs, Video Games

If you would like to contribute one or more of these items, please visit your local Country Bank branch and look for the drop box in the lobby. It's a great way to help our troops and spread good will as we honor our service members from Patriots Day through Memorial Day.

Country Bank serves central and western Massachusetts with fifteen offices. The Bank is a full-service, mutual savings bank and a member of FDIC, DIF and the SUM network. For more information visit www.countrybank.com or call 1-800-322-8233.

Wound Care at Harrington Receives Center of Distinction Award

The staff at The Wound Care Center at Charlton accepts the Center of Distinction Award from Healogics, Inc.

The Wound Care Center at Harrington recently received the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics, Inc., the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services.

The center, located at 10 North Main Street inside the Harrington HealthCare at Charlton building, not only achieved, but exceeded all clinical and quality benchmarks for 12 consecutive months.

The clinical and quality benchmarks included wound healing rates and patient satisfaction scores greater than 95 percent, among other quality outcomes.

There were 506 centers eligible for the Center of Distinction award, but only 172 achieved the honor.

"We take immense pride in our individualized, high quality patient care standards," said Lynn Boucher, Director of The Wound Care Center. "Our patients are our priority every day, and we are very happy to receive this award. This achievement speaks to the commitment every member of the team delivers every day, to every patient. This is the investment Harrington makes."

The Wound Center opened in 2010 and has treated more than 1,500 new patients. The center features a variety of comprehensive treatments for chronic, non-healing wounds, including specialty dressings, debridement, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Chronic and non-healing wounds can result from a number of factors, including diabetes, poor circulation, trauma, vascular disease, and immobility. An estimated eight million Americans suffer from chronic wounds.

The Wound Care Center at Harrington, part of Harrington HealthCare System, is a member of the Healogics Network of more than 635 centers, and provides access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating more than two million chronic wounds.

May 2, 1:00-4:00 pm

This is a flat, easy walk, totaling 4.2 miles one way.

We'll have some cars parked at the Brooklyn Road destination to shuttle folks back to Pomfret Station (or walk back for more fresh air in your lungs, making the round-trip 8.4 miles!)
Note: There are other side roads along the way if you want to park there, ride to Pomfret Station with a friend, then jump off the Air Line Trail sooner or if you are short for time. These are those cross roads (be respectful of the land and home owners where the Air Line Trail crosses these roads).

We'll go slow and take time to look at some interesting things along the way. Dogs, leashed, are welcome, but you must pick up after them. A camera or binoculars may come in handy. Bring your family & friends. Bring water.

Help us fill our Welcome Baskets with Interesting Goodies!

New member Baskets

The Chamber has teamed up with the Center of Hope to create gift baskets to welcome new members to the Chamber of Central Mass South. The Chamber presents our new members with gift baskets that will not only have a monetary value but also to give the recipient an opportunity to learn more about other Chamber members and their services. These baskets make a terrific first impression and are a great way to introduce your business to new prospects. Can you help us fill these baskets with interesting goodies?

We are always seeking interesting, practical items to include in our welcome baskets. We welcome your contributions of items like modest gift certificates, discount coupons, items with your company's logo like piggy banks, thumb drives and coffee mugs, free trial items, small items your company manufactures or whatever else might promote your company and be a value to our new members.

We are looking to assemble about a dozen baskets at a time so that time sensitive material will not be out of date when received. If you would like to donate items for this program, please drop them off at the Chamber office or give us a call to arrange pick up your donated items. Contact Alix at 508-347-2761 or e-mail [email protected] if you have any questions or to arrange a pickup. Thank you for your contributions!
