A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Save the date of Friday, April 26th. This is the date of our major fundraiser and we hope that it becomes an annual event that you will look forward to attending. The Phoenix FireBall, Viva Las Vegas, dinner and auction will take place at LaMalfa Centre in Mentor and will feature silent/live auction items, a great buffet, games and entertainment throughout the evening. We hope that you will attend and will also bring friends with you. I heard that Elvis may be in the building!  The committee is working hard to make this an event you won't forget, so look for your invitation which will be mailed to you in early March.

This morning, I had the honor to officiate my 9th wedding of the letters Q & U. The annual kindergarten program included dancing to the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, and other favorites. Great job kindergarteners! This event began years ago at the Phillips-Osborne School and it is one of those events that the students and parents look forward to and really enjoy.

This evening, our boys basketball team will play for the Lake Effect Conference championship at Grand River Academy in Austinburg, just east of Geneva off of I-90. Currently the team is 19-3 and lost a very close game in overtime this past Wednesday evening to Fairport Harding. There was a great article about the game in yesterday's News-Herald. If you are looking for evening of great basketball, come out to Grand River Academy. The News-Herald had our team ranked in the top 15 high school teams in our area. Not bad for a boys team in its fifth year. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for the Phoenix.

On Saturday, 20 of our Upper School students will travel to Cleveland Heights High School to participate in the 2013 Solo and Ensemble Competition.  Over 750 music students will be competing at this event.  All of our students are competing in the two highest categories of difficulty.  Good luck to our talented performers!

Next Friday, February 22th, is a Campus Visit Day (formally known as Open House and Morning at AOA). If you have neighbors or friends interested in AOA, please let them know about this event. Details are provided in the article below.

In case you forgot, President's Day is this coming Monday, February 18th. The school and offices are closed.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman
