A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Today was Sue Leahey's last day as Development Director at Andrews Osborne Academy. Sue and her family are moving back to the Syracuse area where she is from. Not only will Sue be missed, but her children McKenzie, Griffin, and Carly, all students at AOA, will also be missed by the teachers and many friends they have made while being here for the past two years. It is very unfortunate that we are losing a Development Director who has brought together many of the Andrews alums who were not very excited when the school became co-ed. Sue was also instrumental in increasing the Annual Fund. In honor of Sue, I'm sure she would appreciate your attendance at the Phoenix FireBall event scheduled for Friday, April 26th. She plans to attend, and we will certainly welcome her back.  We wish Sue, her husband Bill, and their family the best as they return home to Syracuse. Thank you Sue for your dedication to AOA.

I am pleased to announce three of our Middle School students are members of the 2013 District VII Middle School Honors Band. The three students are Daniel Ostroske (percussion), Daniel Ryan (clarinet), and Fiona Denihan (flute). They will be performing in a concert on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Mentor High School Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Good luck to our girls and boys basketball teams this weekend. The will be competing in the Lake Effect League Championship Tournament. The boys tournament is held at Grand River Academy and the girls will be playing at Horizon Science Academy.

Asian New Year begins on the first day of the lunar calendar (February 10th this year). It is a major holiday and includes multi-day celebrations in various Asian countries. On Monday afternoon, all students will be participating in various activities and will celebrate this special time of year with our Asian students.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

We hope you will join us on the 24th!

Asian New Year

As Chuck Roman mentions above, this Monday we will again celebrate the Asian New Year with our students. The celebration will begin at 1:15 p.m. for the Lower School students with activities, food and demonstrations. The majority of these events will take place in the auditorium, dining room, community room and gym. At 2:20, the Middle and Upper School will celebrate the New Year with similar activities, but everything will take place in the dining room.

Also on Monday, everyone is encouraged to wear the color red, which is the traditional color for an Asian celebration. Jeans may also be worn on Monday with a red top.

Photos and an article about the celebration will be in the monthly Phoenix News on Friday, March 1st.
