A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Happy 2013! It's great to be back in school and I believe everyone enjoyed having the time off for Winter Break. It's not often that I have a chance to listen to speeches of our Lower School students during their assemblies, but I was able to stop by this past Tuesday to hear speeches of students in kindergarten through second grade. Each time I attend, I am so impressed at the level of which they are able to make their presentations without hesitating, and for speaking loud enough for students and guests to hear them. As these students progress to grades 3-5, the speeches become more involved and they take advantage of technology. The organization of the speeches does not go unnoticed. In the Middle and Upper School, students often make presentations during assembly time and guests approach me afterwards, telling me how much they are amazed at the composure and confidence of our students.

Soon our first semester will be over (January 18th), and eighth graders and Upper School students will be taking midterms next week. You can help at home by making sure the students are eating properly and getting a good rest. It won't be long before re-enrollment information for the 2013-14 school year will be mailed home. You should receive information sometime during the first week in February. We offer a number of scholarships each year and these can be found on our website using the following link: www.andrewsosborne.org/FA.php.
Applications for the scholarships are also found on the same link.

Speaking of the 2013-2014 school year, tentatively our first day of school is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2013. This is the Thursday following Labor Day. We hope to have a calendar for the next school year posted on our website next week which would list major holidays, etc.

Good luck to our Middle School girls and boys basketball teams as they will be playing in AOA's annual Middle School tournament after school today and tomorrow.

Have a great weekend and week ahead and best wishes in 2013,

Chuck Roman

Midterm Exams and ERB Testing

Students in grades 8 - 12 will take midterm exams on January 16th, 17th, and 18th.  These exams are given in blocks of time, so making up exams is difficult and students need to be in school at the required times.  During Advisory Time, students have discussed test taking strategies and some of the most important strategies are to study over a long period of time, get enough sleep during exam week and to eat a good breakfast and lunch.
