CMT United Kingdom E-ComMenT

January 2014

I hope everyone has survived Christmas - complete with floods, power-outages and the most horrendous weather!  We've nearly been afloat down here, and the commute (10 minutes!) into the office was complicated by some road closures, but all seems to be getting back to normal now .... but it's still raining... hmmm!

Well, we advertised our post for Fundraising Manager before Christmas on a couple of national charity recruitment sites, and in the local paper after Christmas, and will be interviewing very soon!  Hopefully, we'll be introduce you to our new member of staff in the next bulletin!

Over the last few months, the Trustees have been developing Strategic plans to take the organisation through the next five years (the recruiting of the Fundraising Manager is part of this) and you can read the plan that has been developed at www.cmt.org.uk/governance_and_finance.php - you find the organisation's governing documents in the same section, along with the Annual Reports and Accounts, and the Strategic Plan.  Richard, our Chair, took the lead on developing this plan - if you have any comments, or points to make, I'm sure he would appreciate hearing from you - you can email him at richard@cmtuk.org.uk.

A spilled jar of US coins on a white background. Note Shallow depth of field Call to Action

As you'll have read in our magazine, 2014 is the start of an exciting time for CMT United Kingdom, with huge goals to achieve and things to do in the future.  We're in the process of working through applications for a Fundraising Manager and we're hoping this will kick off a whole new era for us.

BUT - whoever we appoint is not going to be able to do it all alone - how about helping CMT United Kingdom accomplish its mission to "support and care" for people with CMT, and of course, funding some serious research.

CMT United Kingdom has much in store for 2014, and we need YOU! So, here is your CALL TO ACTION!

Did you know CMT United Kingdom solely relies on private donations and community fundraising money?

We're looking for dedicated individuals to fundraise to help us achieve our targets. We are here to guide you along the way, from brainstorming ideas to providing marketing materials, and with our new Fundraising Manager (once they're appointed) you'll get even more support.

Now, some of you at home might be thinking - fundraising? I am not sure I can ask people for money, or I am much too busy to put an event together!! These thoughts and questions are perfectly normal! So, let's look at it this way: if we, as individuals living with CMT don't get involved, who will? It's about helping the organization that is helping us!

Fundraisers can be big or small. Just know that in the end, every pound counts towards finding a solution to CMT, or much better support for you in the meantime. The possibilities are endless when it comes to fundraising. Let your mind wander and you will be surprised what you can come up with!

Some people have a natural gift for fundraising. Once they get started they love it. The person with this natural gift might be you. The best way to discover it, is to try!

And one thing that people are never asked - but I'm asking now - have you thought about leaving a legacy to CMT United Kingdom in your will?  Many charities absolutely rely on legacy income as a vital, reliable source of funding.  We have a document on our website at http://www.cmt.org.uk/leaving-a-legacy.php that tells you everything you need to know.
