CMT United Kingdom E-ComMenT

December 2013

I can't believe it's almost Christmas - I'm feeling particularly "Bah-humbug-ish" this year - not sure why!!  Maybe it's because everything is so expensive, and all that effort is for such a short period of time.  I hope the cough and cold goes quickly too - really could do without that!!

Anyhow, I am looking forward to two weeks break - the office will be closed from noon on 20th December, and we'll be back at 9am on Monday 6th January.

If you haven't already done so, can you please ALL complete our survey on work and retirement issues at  www.surveymonkey.com/s/cmt-and-work

It's been brought to our attention that maybe making the responses identifiable (with your name) might put some off from responding, what with nothing being private on t'internet!  So, the requirement to put your name has been removed, making it possible to complete anonymously.  So if you were put off - all is well now!

The survey closes at the end of March.

Cumbria Neurological Alliance

We've been asked to make you aware that there are moves to create a regional Neurological Alliance for Cumbria - these local alliances help with publicity of neurological conditions/campaigning for local services and generally bringing people together - so if anyone in the area is interested, please contact Glenys Marriott, tel 01539 728257 email: cumbrianeurologicalalliance@gmail.com

For more information about the Neurological Alliance (an organisation that we're a member of), go to www.neural.org.uk

Annual Conference and AGM

Paperwork for the Conference and AGM will probably be posted out during the latter part of January or early February.  We're planning some changes to the Memorandum and Articles of Association, which form our "constitution", and these things take time to sort out.

There's nothing major planned - we would like to remove the requirement that Trustees are members of the organisation (in case we ever need to advertise for Trustees outside of the membership), and change the duration of term of office, from two years to three, and to have a maximum number of terms that you have to serve (no more than two), to ensure a nice turn-over of faces to keep the charity fresh.  There's also an awful lot of legalese waffle in the document, which would be nice (if we can) to remove or simplify - we've got a free session with a local solicitor in January to see if these changes are allowed.

But in the meantime, you can download the paperwork from our website:

Supporters (who must pay full cost of the Conference) can download their paper work from here

Members - log into the Members Only area - and get your papers from here

(if you're unsure which category you fall into, don't hesitate to ask!)

Speakers confirmed are:
  • Mr Senthil Kumar is lead speaker - he's an Orthopaedic Surgeon from Glasgow, and a really good speaker.
  • Mary Reilly is doing her Q & A session as a workshop again.
  • Gita Ramdharry (and colleagues) are doing a Physiotherapy workshop, possibly about falls and balance
  • A person is coming to talk about pain (still don't know exactly who)
  • And we have one more workshop still to organise - maybe an open forum for discussing whatever you want?  What do you think?

Incidentally...

We do have a vacancy for a Trustee - if you would like to know more about what is involved and how to apply, go to www.cmt.org.uk/recruitment.php to read more, or email me or any of the Trustees.  It's an exciting time for the organisation at the moment, and if you really want to make a difference, why not think about joining the Board?

So, I hope you all have a Great Christmas, Happy New Year and that 2014 is a great one for you.  We're looking forward to some exciting times in CMT-land - lets hope that our plans come to fruition, and that yours do too!

Regards

Karen, Lisa and all the Trustees
