"Working to support people affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease"

CMT United Kingdom E-ComMenT

I made a fairly large blunder with the last E-ComMenT - forgot to highlight an amazing fundraising effort by one of our Trustees, Jeeta Ouston! Oops! I always manage to forget something, when it comes to compiling these updates!
So, here is a fundraising and publicity update for September!
By the way, the link to the News page on our website was broken in the last update - a stray full stop stopped it from working - all the publicity links and articles can be found at www.cmt.org.uk/news.php

Forth Road Bridge Crossing
Jeeta Ouston, one of our Trustees, decided a while back that she wanted to challenge herself to do something amazing - and raise lots of money at the same time. So, as she's still recovering from a horrible broken leg, and isn't walking so well yet, she decided to propel herself across the Forth Road Bridge - BOTH ways... That may not sound like much, but that's a flippin' long bridge, with a wicked slope in the middle, and cambered footpaths! It's over a mile and a half each way, so that's a serious challenge by anyone's standards.
But nothing fazes Jeeta, and she did the double journey, with friends and family on 7th September, in 2 hours, 45 minutes.
And best of all, Jeeta has raised almost £2,000 for our funds - and more coming in all the time! It's still not too late to support her by going to www.justgiving.com/jeetaouston

Henry's got Nerve
And Jeeta wasn't the only one doing amazing challenges on 7th September - member Henry Bowers walked 4 miles from Wolverley to Caunsell in the Midlands raising funds for us too!

CMT United Kingdom on YouTube.com
Every couple of days, during Awareness Month, I've been posting a link to a short video, recorded at our Conference in April, of Professor Mary Reilly answering various questions that matter to us.
You can find the all the videos at www.youtube.com/user/CMTUnitedKingdom - they are great!
Thanks to Andy Watson for the videos, and to Mary for her expertise!

Ted's Travels
If you are into Facebook, you may have come across "Ted" the travelling Bear, who is travelling the world raising awareness of CMT. Ted was the brainchild of Sue Ward, a member from Southampton, and when she mentioned this idea on Facebook, she was deluged with people who wanted to take part, and have Ted to stay. So far Ted has travelled a fair part of the UK, flew to Australia with another member, and spent several months travelling round Australia, and is now journeying through the States!

Sue has now been featured in the Southampton Daily Echo - and maybe in more press soon! Read the article here If you're interested in having Ted to stay, email the office, and I'll put you in touch with Sue.

Today marks the end of Awareness Month, but please do remember that awareness for CMT is a year round task for us all - we can only do so much, but our greatest asset is YOU! You can educate your friends, colleagues, family, medical professionals. Don't forget you can volunteer to be a guinea pig at teaching hospitals - they always like to have real people with unusual conditions, to help educate the next generation of doctors. Keep your eye on the news page of the website - there are still a few articles scheduled for later in the year.
And don't forget - with more funds, we can do so much MORE!
Regards
Karen
