CMT United Kingdom E-ComMenT
Greetings!
I hope everyone is nice and warm and dry, and that no one has been affected by the horrendous flooding around the UK. Perhaps we need to evolve webbed feet!
Did anyone spot the deliberate mistake in the last E-ComMenT? I know one or two of you did! To our great regret, we don't make £150 profit on each pack of Christmas cards - more like £1.50! Whatever the profit margin, there is still time to buy your Christmas Cards if you haven't already done so! We'll go on posting out right up to the Royal Mail's last posting dates!
Scroll down to the bottom to enter our Christmas Raffle - and win a little something for yourself!

Good News!
The Neuromuscular Centre Midlands is now open! We're very excited to say those words, and we hope you're excited reading them. The Centre, on the campus at Hereward College in Tile Hill, Coventry, will shortly be fully kitted out with an assessment room, a carers and relaxation area, and our busy little office. Our fundraising team is up and running and most exciting of all, our physiotherapy service will begin operations in the new year.
What do we do?
NMC Midlands is the first centre in the Midlands and only the second in the country to offer specialised services to those with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions. We provide ongoing condition-specific physiotherapy, as well as the opportunity to try osteopathy, deep tissue massage, and acupuncture with our fully qualified osteopath Jane Edwards. The centre offers advice and support on a wide range of topics, including wheelchairs, equipment and benefits. We also offer an information and advocacy service. We are a registered charity and all our services are provided free of charge.
If you would like to come for an assessment at the centre for physiotherapy or any of our other treatments, you will first need to send us a letter of referral from your GP or Consultant, confirming diagnosis of a neuromuscular condition. For further information, please contact us on 0845 600 5551 or getintouch@nmc-midlands.co.uk

Young People's Weekend
19 Kids and five helpers had another fabulous weekend at the end of October at Bendrigg Lodge Activity Centre in the Lake District. Nothing more needs to be said here - let them tell you themselves how great it was, in their own words:

Thank you to EVERYONE who donates for this project - you can see how much of a difference it makes to them! Next weekend is provisionally booked for the end of October 2013 at the Calvert Trust Centre, Keswick. |
Marathons
We've been overwhelmed by the response to our buying some guaranteed places for the Brighton Half Marathon in February - the team (although not all confirmed yet) now stands at 16! Isn't that amazing?! If you're in the vicinity of Brighton on Sunday 17th February, please come and find us in the Charity Village.
So, we've also signed up as an Affiliate Charity for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival at the end of May, and for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival at the beginning of October next year. To find out more about these Marathons, and any others we may sign up for, please go to
If there are any others you'd like us to investigate places for, please email me and we'll see if we can oblige - no promises, mind - and please, don't even ask about the London Marathon, even the waiting list for places is closed, and I doubt we could afford any, anyhow!

Local Groups
Some of our local groups are struggling a bit at the moment, which is sad - our Co-ordinators do a grand job of providing the bit of local support that we can't do from the office in Bournemouth. Don't forget you can find their contact details on the back page of ComMenT and in the Members Only section of our website. We're delighted that the Cornwall Group is starting up again - you can find them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/433612700033516/ and they are organising a meeting on Friday 21st December, at 6.00pm, at Dobwalls Memorial Hall, Duloe Road, Dobwalls PL14 6LS (just outside Liskeard off the A38) If you'd like to know more, contact the office and I'll pass on the details. There is also another new Facebook page started for people in Scotland too - find them here: http://www.facebook.com/CmtCharcotMarieToothGlasgow We've also had a change of Co-ordinator in Wales - June Griffiths is at the helm now (temporarily at least, unless we can twist her arm) and will be in touch in the New Year regarding the next meeting in the Spring. Her contact details are on the back page of ComMenT - do help her continue this very successful group, so ably started by Sue Evans! And following the sad death of Maureen Smyth, Co-ordinator for Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire, we're now in need of a leader for this group too. Contact us if you'd like to help. If you live in an area of the UK that isn't currently served by a group, please get in touch with us in the office and we'll give you all the help we can to get one started. You can get some initial help by emailing Annette, our Local Groups Co-ordinator on annette@cmtuk.org.uk

Last but not least, we're having a Cake, Mince Pie and Tea Party in the Office in Bournemouth on Friday 7th December - so if you're within a reasonable distance and can get to us, please come and join us! Otherwise Lisa and I will have to eat all the mince pies ourselves, and wouldn't that be tragic (!) It's a good chance to see what we're up to, and buy some Christmas cards - PROPER charity Christmas cards!!
