Lets do it all over again next year!!!

Fundraising

We had a bit of a "master class" over dinner with a professional fundraiser just before the Scottish Conference, and have come to realise that we're really not doing NEARLY enough to ensure the long-term stability (and even survival) of CMT United Kingdom.  This is not a call for you all to start running marathons, but just a bit of a wake up call for us.  We need to become much less reliant on you lovely people for our income, and do much more to seek funding outside of our walls, so to speak.  If anyone has any ideas as to where we can start, it would be appreciated.  In particular, if anyone has any experience of seeking "core funding" (for salaries, rent and the like), that would be very helpful.  Most grant funders will fund "projects" but not those essential core costs.

But if you are interested in helping us, we will be able to set up monthly direct debits for donations very shortly.  Regular, ongoing, giving is what we need!

Fundraising - part 2!

Meanwhile....

Hello

I am writing to you to let you know that for the whole month of October every Barclays Corporate Banking team across The Midlands, Wales and the South West are challenging each other to the 10,000 steps a day challenge!

Every member of each of the teams will be walking, running or cycling 10,000 steps a day for 31 days in a bid to raise monies for their nominated charities.

How far is 10,000 steps anyway? The average person's stride length is approximately 2.5 feet long. That means it takes just over 2,000 steps to walk one mile, and 10,000 steps is close to 5 miles.  So......... 5 miles per day over 31 days is a total of 155 miles or the equivalent of just under 6 marathons each!

Amazingly there are a total of 308 members of Barclays Staff taking part who over 31 days will have covered a distance of 92,184,700 steps which equates to approximately 46,092 miles!!!!

The challenge is how will I do it when a sedentary person may only average 1,000 to 3,000 steps a day??

In the Hereford & Worcester Corporate team we have decided to raise funds for CMT UK (and another charity)

If you feel you could donate a few pounds please visit our web page and click to ' donate' to the charity of your choice. Barclays will match every £1 you give.

Thank you for your support it is much appreciated.

FUNDRAISING - Part 3!

Do you get a feeling there's a theme to this newsletter .... sorry!!  No - I take that back, I'm not sorry - fundraising is a hot topic for us at the moment, as you'll have gathered, and if there is one thing that I've learned so far - if you don't ask, you don't get!!

Anyhow, this idea could be fun, and helpful with Christmas coming up - and pretty painless too!

STATUS JEWELLERY is an online Jewellery shop, based in Glasgow,  run by Ken McFadzean, who has CMT.  He would like to launch a "jewellery party" scheme - whereby you would contact him, he'd send you a selection of jewellery from his stock and you invite your friends, family and colleagues to have a look, and buy....  Anything unsold, you'd send back to him postage paid.

The good part for us is - we would get 20% commission on all your purchases.  Basically, you'd send him two cheques for the  total sold - one for 80% made payable to him, the second for the balance, made payable to us, which he'd forward.
Believe me, the jewellery is beautiful - you can check it out here at www.statusjewellery.co.uk.

If you're interested, please contact Ken direct on kenmcfstatus@aol.com - the only restriction is you must be a registered (paid up) member of CMT United Kingdom in order to host your party.  He can obviously only provide stock for a limited number of parties at one time, so if you'd like one before Christmas, please do contact Ken quickly.

Incidentally, we get 20% commission from ALL sales from the website too!  Ken came to the Scottish Conference with lots of his beautiful products, and donated £50 to us from the sales he made on the day.

Our CMT Kids Group are off up to the Lake District for their Annual Young People's Weekend tomorrow - one of the core events that we can only do regularly because of the generosity of our supporters.  It's not a holiday - it's a huge confidence boost for kids to find out that they really can rock-climb, abseil and canoe, just like everyone else.  Lets hope the weather improves for them - they usually enjoy "wet" weather (understatement!!).

Regards
