Get Surly!
November 2014
Greetings!
EIGHT Ale - Now It's Done. Let's Party.
Our actual anniversary was at the beginning of this year. But since we put the quality of the beer above everything else, we release each anniversary beer when it's done, rather than rush something out in time for a particular date. Well, our eighth anniversary beer, EIGHT, is done. Wanna drink some?

Join us for a special event to celebrate our 8th anniversary and EIGHT beer release at the Dakota on Sunday, November 9 from 5-10pm.

The beer was brewed with Golden Promise and Aromatic malt, oats, and milk sugar fermented in stainless steel, then aged in High West Rye Whiskey barrels. The result is a golden-hued Oat Wine style ale, with notes of spicy vanilla marshmallow and aromas of honey and whiskey.

EIGHT t-shirts, sweatshirts and posters will be for sale, CASH only. The awesome EIGHT artwork was designed by our 2013 Surly featured artist Josh "Jawsh" Lemke. He'll be there to sign merch from 7-8pm.

We'll be pouring EIGHT, along with Todd the Axe Man, The Devil's Work robust porter, and more. The chef feature to pair with EIGHT will be crispy pork belly and Oregon white sturgeon. There will also be music from DJ Paper Tiger, and an appearance by very special guests.

Reservations are requested if you want to sit and eat. You can book them on the Dakota's website or call 612-332-1010.
Surly & Doomtree?!
Twin Cities hip hop collective DOOMTREE have announced their last Doomtree blowout ever, a week-long celebration which includes 'Surly Doomtree Day' on Sunday, December 7.

What's Surly Doomtree Day? It's a creative collaboration. That's all you need to know right now. We might tell you a little more at the EIGHT party. Until then, here's a shot of the crew at the Brooklyn Center brewery when they came to visit last month...

New Brewery Update: It's Nearly Ready...

Good news, the Destination Brewery is close to opening. You'll be able to come and share a beer with us in the Beer Hall some time next month.

In the meantime, we're still working hard to get this thing finished. We'll soon begin testing the brewhouse, and we're finishing the walls, floors, landscaping, bar and all that other great stuff that you've waited so patiently for.

Make sure to follow us on the Twitter machine, @Surlybrewing for regular Vine videos and photos as our crew begin the final stages of construction.

As always, you can keep an eye on the brewery's progress by checking our construction site camera

SurlyBrewing.com Gets An Upgrade
If you've visited surlybrewing.com recently, you've probably noticed that we have a brand new website...

Check it out: surlybrewing.com. We're still breaking it in, but the most important stuff is there: Event details, beer details, Surly news, Surly Gives A Damn updates, merch store and most importantly, where you can #GetSurly. And soon you'll be able to see when you can come to our Destination Brewery Beer Hall.

Also, make sure to follow @SurlyBeerHall, our new Twitter handle for all information and updates on the upcoming Beer Hall in Minneapolis. We'll let you know when it's open, what's pouring, and what you can get to eat.

Still Time To Give A Damn In 2014

On Saturday, November 1, our friends at Dangerous Man Brewing and our Surly Gives A Damn volunteers rocked the Great River Greening Buckthorn Blast. We tore out a ton of buckthorn and made the park a better place. You guys were awesome.

If you want to Give a Damn with us, there are still some events coming up in 2014:

On Wednesday, November 19 from 6pm-9pm we will have 80 folks to heading out to the Free Bikes 4 Kids (FB4K) warehouse in Roseville to wash, spit shine and fix hundreds of bikes that will be given to kids in need at Christmas!

Don't worry if you missed the FB4K sign up...we still need you to Give a Damn.

We are hosting a little competition between Surly Gives a Damn Volunteers and Dangerous Man Brewing Community Volunteers. The wager, a trophy and bragging rights for 2015.

Each group will record how many bikes they clean and fix at FB4K from now until Friday, December 5. Free Bikes 4 Kids will announce the winning group and a trophy will be awarded in December. We can't let them win, so gather a group and sign up today. Please make sure to email [email protected] so she can track our volunteers and then tell the volunteer coordinator at FB4K you're logging bikes for Surly so you can get a drink token at the end of your shift.

On Wednesday, December 3 from 6-8:30pm we will be heading back to Bridging. They have 40 dressers they need built and have asked us if we would GET'ER DONE before 2015. So let's do this. We will need 50 SGAD volunteers to help us get our build on at the Bridging warehouse in Roseville. Sign up for this event will go live here and on Facebook on November 19.

You can find out more info at our new webpage: surlybrewing.com/surly-gives-a-damn

Featured Merch: Darkness 2014

Our new Darkness merch featuring artwork from this year's Surly featured artist, Erica Williams, is now available on our web store. We've got t-shirts, hoodies, screen print posters, Darkness goblets and more.

We've shut down our Brooklyn Center brewery merch store for good but you can still get Surly gear at our web store. Don't worry, there will be an awesome new merch store at the Destination Brewery. You just have to be patient...
