WEDDING BELLS!
We want to share some wonderful news from the project in India.
Sunitha is a young lady that has been sponsored both as a child and into adulthood and 2013 is shaping up to be a busy and exciting year for her.
In taking the decision to continue to support her during her adult years Sunitha's sponsors enabled her to continue her education. May sees the end of Sunitha's Tailoring course and she is fully expected to ace her final exams.
The excitment doesn't stop with successful exam results. Sunitha has recently become engaged and hopes to be married this year.
We are so delighted when we see children that have been supported through child sponsorship bloom and grow into wonderful young adults. Sunitha's sponsors not only gave her hope but now with marriage and perhaps plans for a family they have passed on that hope to the next generation.
We're sure you will join us in wishing Sunitha all the best for her exams and of course married life!

You can change this child's life for as little as 73p per day!
Can you imagine what life is like when you live in a house that has no electricity or sanitation? Where the government owns the land your home is built upon and instead of the promise of improvements they hold the fear of eviction over you.
This is Ramesh's reality and yet in spite of this he is a happy 9 year old boy whose biggest love in life is football!
Ramesh has 2 siblings and a mum and dad who love him but they struggle to improve life for their family. Child sponsorship would bring Ramesh stability and hope for the future. If sponsoring him interests you or you wish to donate to the Nepal project please click here. |

SIXTY SECOND CHAT
This month Nik Read from Big Picture Charity Films is our Business Member of the Month.
What motivates you?
What motivates me is my family and the desire to do something of value, I don't want to retire and look back and say "I never made a significant difference to anyone or anything"
Who do you admire in the world of business and why?
I admire Alan Sugar because despite very humble beginnings he dragged himself up against the odds, he never stopped believing in himself or his vision, or more importantly what is important in life. I would recommend his autobiography whole-heartedly!
What is your business Philosophy?
The philosophy of our charity is to produce films that inform and educate people and therefore ultimately change lives.
What would be your advice to anyone wondering if their business could benefit from joining Business against Poverty?
Having travelled to Romania I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone become a part of "Business Against Poverty". Being able to see first hand the difference this charity makes to the lives of the people it supports made us want to get involved more. It increases morale and gives people a greater sense of purpose to know that by supporting BaP they really are helping. I would recommend that not only you support BaP but you actually make the effort to visit one of their projects, it will change your life forever...
Big Picture Charity films are a not for profit organisation doing great work for Charities like ourselves. Please look at the website for more details.

Welcome to our March (already) newsletter.
This month we want to tell you about some amazing events taking place over the coming months to raise money in support of our Projects. All of them organized by supporters just like you who start off wanting to do their bit for the charity and end up changing lives.
We find many people today want to do more, in terms of fundraising, than put coins in a collection tin. There are so many ways of doing this , and you can read about a few of these further on, but the one thing they all have in common is the people involved. They have a heart for the cause, they put in their time, energy, emotions as well as their own money. These are people who identify, in our case, with the poor and the marginalised and the injustice of life. They don't just want things to change they want to change them.
We hope you will stand with us as we salute these people and pass on the gratitude of all those we support together in relieving suffering for children and their families in our Projects.

URGENT APPEAL - NEPAL
Here in the UK we have endured another winter of torrential rains and storms. Many families have had to leave their homes whilst repairs are completed meaning that everyday life now takes place in a rental property or hotel room. Across the globe in Nepal Surya and his family are also the victims of flooding but for them there is no home to go back to and definitely no hotel room!

A landslide swept away Surya's family home completely leaving them homeless sleeping on the floor of a neighbour's house. Whilst their neighbours are giving all that they can their house has also been effected and is damp and unhealthy. Chest infections afflict the whole family with the elderley and the children being most at risk from complications.
This is a community that wants to help itself and as you can see from the picture above they have made a start. Project Leader Krishna has overseen the laying of foundations for the new house. With the monsoon season looming it is imperative that this project is completed soon and only £500 is needed to ensure it is.
Please help by donating whatever you can, 100% will go to completing Surya's house. You can call us on 01225 718920 to donate or online |

STARLIGHT CENTRE OPEN
We are delighted to announce the opening of The Starlight Centre in Nepal, beginning with just six young children, all of whom live within the local community.
These children come together once a week to be fed a hot meal with meat - something that the children have never been able to experience, their daily diet consisting of just Bhat (rice). After their meal they are given time to play and as you can see from the photographs, they loved learning how to play Twister. To us just a game but to them a way of learning co-ordination, colours, teamwork and of course left from right! Project Leader Krishna and his wife Sita also spend time with the children teaching social skills and other educational topics.
The Project has started small but we have big plans . When funds come in we want more children to join the Centre providing them with educational support at the most important time of their lives and providing their community with a future
If you would like to support this project, no matter how small, you can set up a DD here or pay a one off donation or email us of your intention.

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING
STONAR SCHOOL
Stonar School have surprised us with yet another wonderful fundraising gift which will help the Medical Centre in Romania run for another two months. The Stonar girls raised the funds by running Dress Down and Mufty Days as well as a Carol Concert.
After her first Awareness Trip with the charity back in 2006, Sister Sue Day, the school nurse, wanted her school to get more involved with our work. Having been every year since 2008 the school have significantly contributed to the running of the Medical Centre. Their support ensures that it is fully stocked each month with the necessary medicines for the children and their families .
Without the Medical Centre at the Way of Joy, these families wouldn't have access to ANY medical care and the startling reality is many would die.
If you would like to save a life, then please donate to this much needed project.
DINNER FOR GOOD
Last month we published an article on Dinner for Good a new way to raise money for our work simply by having friends over for a meal. We are delighted to say that we have already had our first dinner party booked through Dinner 4 Good.
A huge thank you to Lesley White who is having her dinner in April. She looks set to have a fantastic fun evening with friends to raise money for the children and families that we support - everyone's a winner!
If you fancy hosting your own dinner though Dinner 4 Good, have a look for us on their website or email us for more information.
PETE AND DOM
On the 18th of March Pete White and Dom Casey will attempt to get as far as possible from the Parkinson steps in Leeds in 36 hours without spending any money, all to raise money for People against Poverty. They will use any means that they can to cover the most ground!
Pete first saw our work whilst visiting Romania with St. Laurence School to build a Sanctuary House in 2011, and what he saw stayed in his heart.
If you would like to support and sponsor these intrepid young men please find their fundraising page here
