On our last awareness trip to Romania our office manager, Jenny, met this young boy who has aspirations to be a photographer.

Education wasn't his only challenge in achieving this goal he also had a sight problem which needed surgery.
When one of our supporters heard this, a donation was made to get the surgery done.

MAKE 2013 THE YEAR YOU CHANGE A LIFE

Joseph is both disabled and blind and before he came to live with Gertrude he was immobile and without much hope. In the safe and loving environment of the Orphanage something special has begun to happen. Joseph is now able to stand on his own two feet, literally, and become active. He is constantly improving and with support and nurturing who knows what the future holds for him?

If you want to be part of building that future for Joseph by sponsoring him or you wish to donate to the Haiti project please click here.

SIXTY SECOND CHAT

This month Nik Read from Big Picture Charity Films is our Business Member of the Month.

What motivates you?

What motivates me is my family and the desire to do something of value, I don't want to retire and look back and say "I never made a significant difference to anyone or anything"

Who do you admire in the world of business and why?

I admire Alan Sugar because despite very humble beginnings he dragged himself up against the odds, he never stopped believing in himself or his vision, or more importantly what is important in life. I would recommend his autobiography whole-heartedly!

What is your business Philosophy?

The philosophy of our charity is to produce films that inform and educate people and therefore ultimately change lives.

What would be your advice to anyone wondering if their business could benefit from joining Business against Poverty?

Having travelled to Romania I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone become a part of "Business Against Poverty". Being able to see first hand the difference this charity makes to the lives of the people it supports made us want to get involved more. It increases morale and gives people a greater sense of purpose to know that by supporting BaP they really are helping. I would recommend that not only you support BaP but you actually make the effort to visit one of their projects, it will change your life forever...

Big Picture Charity films are a not for profit organisation doing great work for Charities like ourselves. Please look at the website for more details.

Did you know there's a new way to raise money just by having your friends round to dinner?

With our dedicated dinner4good.com page all the work is done for you. It's simple to invite your guests and easy for them to accept and donate on-line, so you don't have to worry about the awkward money thing. Dinner4good then takes care of claiming the Gift Aid and sending the money to us.

Not a contender for Masterchef? There's some easy recipes on dinner4good.com - including one-pot dishes and recipes you can prepare in advance - that leave you free to entertain your guests and have fun.  What could be simpler?!

LAMB TAGINE
This delicious Moroccan dish is great for dinner parties. The flavours and textures are terrific, it's fairly easy to make and you can prepare it well in advance! Tagines have a lovely range of North African flavours that are cooked at lower temperatures for a longer time, which means that the meat and vegetables will be really tender and their flavours mingle deliciously.

Belated Happy New Year to you all!

A new year means new aspirations, strategies and of course budgets. It is anticipated that 20% of charities will close this year and we are very determined that we are not amongst them.  That means we will need to work harder and smarter in order to ensure we continue supporting Gertrude, Krishna and Valentine. With this in mind we have some great ways for you to support us this year from sponsoring those running in the Bath Half Marathon in March, to throwing a dinner party.

Whilst the pounds and pennies are crucial to our work there are also incredibly important ways you can support us that won't cost you a penny, whether that be through volunteering or simply spreading the word to your friends, colleagues and family about the work we do.  It all counts!

2013 is going to be a challenge for most of us but we are very excited and proud to be facing it together with you!

We all know that 2013 is going to be tough and  sometimes it is easy to get despondent.  Do those few pounds really make that much of a difference?

Since that catastrophic earthquake three years ago Gertrude and the children of the St Joseph's Creche and Notre Maison Orpahange have come a long way.  This progress would not have been possible without the pounds and pennies you donated.

In sharing with you these images we hope it will inspire you to continue your support and also, just as importantly, bring a smile to your face on a wet February day.

Gertrude 3 years on, with so much more to smile about!

Hitting the pavements in training for the Bath Half are the ten strong team from ITS.  If you want to support them you can by visiting their Just giving page.

As the first Platinum sponsor for Business against Poverty and the winners of our first Business of the Year Award, John Matthews,  managing Director of ITS wanted to remind you as to why they wanted to support our charity.

"Choosing to become a member of BaP and making People against Poverty our charity was such a simple decision for us. As an SME, it became pertinent for us to embrace our corporate social responsibilities and Business against Poverty has provided the perfect vehicle for us to make our initial steps into charity sponsorship."

ITS provides IT services for SMEs and corporates at enterprise level.  In addition to core IT services, they specialise in "Green IT", infrastructure virtualisation, cloud computing and disaster recovery services.

Team of 30 train for the Bath Half Marathon 2013

Dream Team training is reaching that final crucial stage.

Empowered and watched over by Mike of Johnson's PTS (who has given his time for free since training began in September)   these brave souls have been giving their all through the darkest, wettest and coldest months of the year. The goal? The Bath Half Marathon on 3rd March

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING

London to Paris Bike Ride

This April, 19 year old Jonathan Walker will be cycling over 200 miles from London to Paris to raise money for us. Jonathan found out about our work through the fundraising organisation Skyline and chose to support us.
If you would like to support him on this major task though sponsorship please click here

Remember, there are so many ways to get involved and raise much needed funds for us and not all require this much stamina! You could throw a dinner party (See below).
Then again you may like the challenge so why not jump out a plane, fulfil a dream of trekking the Great Wall of China or to Machu Picchu or maybe you have your own ideas.
Please email jenny for more information.
