Manager
Byron Youth Service has developed a reputation for creatively responding to the needs of young people in our community.
Ideally the new Manager can match our passion and commitment to the work we do.
BYS is currently funded through government bodies and philanthropy, as well as community support. The aim is to lead BYS to become self-sustainable by 2020, through social enterprise, and other innovative and effective fundraising strategies.
We are seeking a part-time (30 hr/ wk) permanent experienced and hands-on Manager to join this not-for-profit community organisation in Byron Bay.

Mullum Cottage
It's been a busy month at Mullumbimby Cottage again and we have four new participants in groups. Our focus this month has been on making the Cottage even more 'youth friendly' in a practical way. All our new cushions, lamps, electric kettle (all donated) have added to the ambiance and a lovely new couch donated by Dr Rob Trigger is so appreciated. It's the newest article of furniture we've ever received and the boys all tried to sit on it at once.
The girls have also been busy beautifying the garden and were amazingly handy with shovels in quite hard soil. We've cleaned up the backyard and planted begonias around the edges.

All groups have food together at the Cottage and Brook Farm muesli is still being enjoyed as is pasta in the colder weather.
The year 9 girls are still working on their emotion boxes as they missed a few groups due to school events. There is some beautiful and creative work happening and some great conversations while they work.
With it being Splendour month, everyone was getting in the mood and we had some conversations about staying safe by looking out for each other,
staying together, eating and being well rested beforehand, having charge on phones and a planned way home.

RUKKUS 2015
Rukkus the annual Mullum Skate comp is always a much anticipated event for local young skaters. This year the Byron Youth Service ran the comp in the winter as there are not so many activities for young people in the winter months and it paid off! It was a fantastic day, we were so lucky with the weather, no rain at all! We had a fantastic turn out with many local families coming for the day as well as competitors from as far as Yamba and the Gold Coast! There were about 150 people that came to enjoy the talented skaters that registered for the competition. This year's winners were Oscar Southerden in the under 8's, Tane Pritchett in the under 12's, Sam Windherst in the under 16's, Joey Cormack in the Opens and Keona Pringault in the girls division.
Funded by the Byron Shire Council and run by the Byron Youth Service this is a fantastic event on the Mullum calendar we are lucky to have.
The Byron Youth Service will run the Suffo Skate Comp on Sunday the 4th of October so start practicing those tricks!

BYRON YOUTH THEATREFROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
With 2 extremely successful projects (Altered States and PASH) under their belts, Byron Youth Theatre are going from strength to strength this year. Their latest project funded by a Youth Activity grant from Byron Council is titled "Have Your Say". This dynamic, interactive theatre form will allow young people to "have their say" about the current education system and how they would like it to improve. It will be presented at the MULLUM CIVIC HALL on AUGUST 21st 9.30am-12noon. Ten young people from each local high school will be selected to attend accompanied by a member of staff and it is open for community members and other young people. Please contact Lisa at email address below to book a place. Immediately after, BYT will be working with some young people who have a disability on a project titled OUTSPOKEN. This is funded by the Fundability Program, Northcott. Facilitated by Lisa Apostolides and assisted by Michael Hennessy (Artistic Director of SPRUNG Integrated Dance company) the young people will collaborate to create a theatrical performance exploring issues of identity, belonging and inclusivity in the community. There will be two performances in November and for young people who have a disability who are interested in becoming involved there are 2 places left!! For more information please contact Lisa on email and number below. In November and December BYT hope to receive some more professional training including physical theatre and practical preparation to enter the Acting profession. We welcome all support from the community, whether it be resources, snacks, materials for set and prop construction and donations.
