Mullum Cottage
We've had a great last month before school holidays at the Cottage with a lot of support and welcome donations, which have given us hope for the future. Byron Bay Bunnings raised $1135.00 through a fundraiser, a great effort on a wet and gloomy day.
We thank Misty Henderson from the Cottage Year 9 girls group for singing on the day. The Year 10 boys have planted the Magnolia tree out the back (in memory of Anie, a young girl we lost a few years ago) and have put together new benches for the verandah. Further donations from Dione Baird and Brooke Scully have provided us with some new cushions, a kettle and kitchen
Our last groups with Tweed Valley Sexual Health have been completed for this year and we thank Larissa Smythe for making it fun and informative.
A big thanks again to Brook Farm who have donated a new range of their delicious mueslis, which you can also sample at our monthly Flea Market (pictured being set up below)
Some of the emotion boxes being created by the Year 9 girls groups have been completed and are beautiful, creative and very innovative and will be on display at the Cottage.

The Cottage also provides a safe space for girls from previous groups, current groups and friends of friends to call in and have a chat, something to eat and support with any issues they may have.
Our At The Cottage campaign on Indiegogo is still happening and we would be so grateful if anyone has a couple of couches in good condition that they may like to donate. The couches we have are really old and young people are half sitting on metal frames. Please contact Deb on 0409170062 if you are able to help.

BYRON YOUTH THEATRE CHANGING LIVES THROUGH YOUTH THEATRE
Byron Youth Theatre have launched straight into their next project called "Have Your Say" after the incredible success of both Altered States ( illicit drug use Project) and PASH Conference (www.pash.org.au)
Funded by Byron Council Youth Activity Grant, "Have Your Say" will see BYT members devise several Forum Theatre scenes which will highlight oppressions experienced by young people in the current education system. It is an interactive style of Theatre developed by Augusto Boal who was keen to empower audiences in social action.
After showing a scene, the cast replay it and audience members are encouraged to Stop! the action and offer alternative actions and dialogue that the protagonist can take to bring about a different outcome.
"We are currently surveying and interviewing young people about this project and encourage them to go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7RSFWVV to help us identify what they are experiencing and how they would like it to change" comments Director Lisa Apostolides.
The event will be advertised on Byron Youth Theatre Facebook page, regional High schools as well through local media channels once a date and venue have been confirmed. It will comprise of the BYT cast and youth audience, with community members invited to observe and listen while young people " Have Their Say!!".
Immediately after, BYT will be busy with their Fundability Project "Outspoken" . This project will explore issues of inclusion, belonging and identity working with other young people who have a disability. Two principle dancers from SPRUNG Integrated Dance Company (http://sprung.me/)
will join BYT members and Director Lisa Apostolides is keen to hear from other young people with a disability who may wish to be involved. They would need to be available on Tuesday afternoons from 4-6.30pm (from late August until mid November) to attend rehearsals and will have the option to perform or to advise and tutor a BYT member who may portray them.
For further information on all projects please contact Lisa Apostolides
