The Byron Youth Crew
I am inviting you to come and join The Byron Youth Crew, an opportunity for young people to have a say in what happens at the Byron YAC.
Our goal is to create an events team that can rely on each other and share ideas freely on Mondays at the YAC in a relaxed and informal environment. If you are aged between 12 - 24 you are very welcome. The YAC is a space for youth to feel at home and is the only purpose built youth centre in the Northern Rivers.
The Byron Youth Crew will get together every Monday at 5pm to have inspiring conversations about actually making things happen for young people by young people.
I am Eloise Wood, I have worked on events at the YAC and saw room for growth in this field, I would like to see Byron Youth have a say and do something constructive with their talents and ideas.
Youth Crew Meetings will be held every Monday from the 4th of May till the 22nd of June @ 5pm.
The YAC has hosted events and competitions with local talents such as Blue King Brown and Parkway Drive, so who knows what talents are sitting quietly in one of the most creative and artistic places in Australia.
Are you interested in trying to organise musicians, hanging lights, making movies or working on events at the YAC, tell us your ideas!

Mullum Cottage
Lots of activities and info sharing happening at the Cottage this month. All groups did sessions with Siobhan the youth D&A worker with Intra.
Great sessions with
lots of good info, some short films and everyone had a go with the goggles, which simulate being drunk, making the point of how scary it is when people drive cars in that condition.
The last day of last term was celebrated with chips and juice and a casual week, enjoyed by all I think. Thanks to all my young people who still came to groups despite it being the last week of school.
Big ups to Megan Donnelly, pictured performing at Spirit of the Bay. Megan was in girls group a few years ago and has transformed from a shy girl to a fabulous singer and performer.
We had a visit from Jemma and the girls loved holding Arizona, who was very well behaved. The year 9 boys did a good job of clearing the garden at the front of the Cottage, which had grown alarmingly over the holidays. We also had a bit of tagging to remove, the first in 16 years and by the same tagger who tagged all over Mullumbimby Pool. Brook and Addison potted up some cuttings, which will hopefully thrive and improve the ambiance at the back of the Cottage.
Both the Year 9 girls groups are doing an amazing job on their emotion boxes and there are some beautiful and creative works of art in progress.
A visit from boys who were in group nearly two years ago was lovely and great to hear what they're doing in life.
Year 10 boys also had a chilled day on the last weekof term, playing pool and having lunch.
I was so happy to hear that gorgeous Chinta Gash is alive and ok in Nepal. She was in Thamel on the Saturday when the earthquake hit and her family were very relieved to eventually hear that she was ok. |
