BLUESFEST BUSKING GROMMET COMPETITION
The calibre of talent for the Bluesfest Busking Grommet Comp has been absolutely phenomenal as we see yet another year unravel. The Beach Hotel saw 9 performances take to the stage for the finals with a stellar crowd to watch the talent in action.
Firstly the Grommet event took place with the sensational 'Three Little Sisters' being first to wow the audience with their mesmerising harmonies and instrumental prowess. Next was 'Hannah Parrington', a sweet young local lady with experience well beyond her 13 years of age confidently staging her presence. It was the final performers who put their best self forward to take out the Grommet Comp for 2015 - 'Hoo8hoo'. Not only did their performance rein them as the Grommet Winners but they also won the handmade guitar donated from Hard Road Guitars for the best guitarist of the day.
The annual Bluesfest Busking Competition was once again a huge success!

MULLUM COTTAGE
There's lots of great, creative work going on at the Cottage and plenty of fun. Both of the Year 9 groups are working on 'emotion boxes' and they are beginning to look really fabulous. Lots of conversations on all sorts of topics take place while the girls are working and we always have a break for food.
A young peoples' forum was held at the YAC and was attended by about 40 young people, all of whom participated and gave us lots of information and ideas to action so we can make things even better at the YAC. At the Cottage we try to always celebrate birthdays as the great milestones that they are and this month Izzy, Tiare and Alana all had birthdays.
We love having visits from young people who were in groups at the Cottage previously, their visits are always hilarious with lots of shrieking 'we didn't have that when we were here'.
Antonia Canosa has completed mini forums with all the Cottage's groups and is now doing a research project with the Year 10 group, which will provide them with some very useful new skills and hopefully lots of fun as well.
The Blues Busking Competition was held at the YAC on the last weekend in March and I called in to listen to Misty Henderson with her band Running Waves. Misty is in one of the Cottage girls' groups and it was great to see her up on stage.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our lunch program!

CHANGING LIVES THROUGH YOUTH THEATRE
With all four local schools booked to see ALTERED STATES this May, and a PUBLIC performance booked at the Drill Hall, Mullumbimby on May 24th at 7pm, Byron Youth Theatre are flat out devising what could be said as their most challenging production so far.
"Playing characters who are involved in serious drug use is very challenging" commented Sahaj Blatt, one of the Company's long standing members, " this piece is really stretching all of us in terms of acting and trying to find a balance in providing valuable information as well as realistic scenarios."
Director Lisa Apostolides is confident that BYT will, as usual construct a powerful and thought provoking performance. " BYT members are such a talented, dedicated amazing group of young people, they are facing the demands of this piece with their normal enthusiasm and rigour. It is wonderful when the Company vote for a 5 hour rehearsal in their holidays, that's commitment!!"
BYT went to the BLUES FESTIVAL again this year with the BRAIN conducting interviews and quizzes with festival goers as a reminder to have fun without getting messy with alcohol.
Coming up almost immediately after Altered States will be the 2nd PASH Conference on June 3rd & 4th JUNE. BYT will perform their incredibly exciting and eye brow raising production again this year but this time providing double the amount of performances responding to last year's evaluation outcomes. Some former members will return for this production with new members also taking on parts. If you missed PASH last year PLEASE make sure you see it this year. A fabulous conference on all matters concerning youth sexual health.
BYT are extremely excited and grateful to receive a YOUTH ACTIVITIES grant from Byron Council which will enable them to devise a Forum Theatre production titled "Have Your Say". This event( scheduled for July/August) will enable young people to comment on the current education system and what changes they believe could make it better for more students.
Director Lisa Apostolides is keen to hear from anyone who can help construct 3 stands for a backdrop for Altered States as well as a camera operator who would be willing to be involved in an evaluation process and promotional video.
